Anything with a mid/high tempo and standard instruments was pop punk on ap. It's only natural we continue that here. In other news the coordinates names are fucked up on spotify lol
They were really great tonight. My gf even said it was her favorite show she has ever seen. She isn't into music much and just goes with me because she is great like that.
Oh my god this album is amazing. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do on first listen, I thought it would be grower like Home was for me.
Emo is such a vague term. Hell, I haven't considered Brand New to be Emo since 03. But the "Emo by association" thing has weight. I think any band that was Emo at one point or another will be considered Emo for the rest of their careers. Nothing wrong with that, I don't think. I tend to view Emo as a scene rather than a genre anyway. Goodness is really good.
Spotify can't deal with the coordinates which is hilarious unless you rely on scrobbling like I do :s
Should have bet @cwhit that this wouldn't get BNM. Glad to see it covered, sorry it didn't get a slightly higher rating.
Think it must be an error the label's side as I have my ALAC copy of this synced into Spotify and it can handle the coordinates fine...will send a tweet to Tiny Engines later
Isn't an 8 a really great score for pitchfork? Good to see, when I bring up reviews it's not bc they effect how I listen to the music or need validation. I bring them up bc I love the band so much I just want people to listen to them and for them to have as much success at possible
Yes, it is a good score. Just seems to be about the ceiling for bands from this genre/scene. Home got an 8.2.
The review was actually pretty good! Still, can't believe there are 'ceilings' for certain genres or scenes. I know it's better than when they were consistently shat on in the past but it's still kinda elitist.
Yeah I noticed the other day the coordinates are jacked up if you just google the album and scroll to the info. Some database is screwed up somewhere.
I wish I could get into this record more. Maybe it will just take some more time. Right now for me soft animal is the high point of this. The Sun, You in This Light portion has not clicked for me at all yet
if it makes anyone feel better about emo never getting bnm, metal gets like 8.4s w/no bnm on like a monthly basis. electronic/dance music too. just how it shakes out.
Wouldn't have taken that bet unless it was like five bucks, haha. Always a part of me that hoped but I knew the odds were against me
I felt like the p4k review worked as hard to characterize Home as it did this one, was the only thing I noticed. I guess I can see why but there's literally a review for that album linked on that page
This is true and there is nothing wrong with having two consecutive albums in the low 80s on pitchfork most bands would be delighted with that type of consistency. Also the content of the review is really positive which is always a good thing
