i dont like much on this but i revisited it never goes out and it's got some rippers for sure. forgot how much i liked that record.
I wrote like 1700 words about it, gave it a 7 (no clue how that could be construed as a negative score, numerical scoring is dumb tbh), and feel like I still didn't have enough space to write about everything I wanted to say. Mostly focused on the negative because I feel like it's not as simple as "this doesn't work" most of the time, but I think this album is good. REVIEW: The Hotelier find peace from agony with ‘Goodness’
I like to think the lines that start with "When" in Goodness Pt. 1 and 2 are referring to the time when Home took place and Goodness is the characters in Home finding love again. But I don't know my thoughts are all over the place with this album. It's really awesome to see how many different meanings people are getting out of this record and how they all kind of fit.
The cymbals at the end of Soft Animal get me so hyped every time. I really do love the drumming on this record, especially on that song. It makes the album really flow well, imo
On my 3rd listen, and I seriously love all the interludes. They work perfectly as little breaks between the big moments. Also Sun is really starting to grab hold of me.
Hahaha. Couldn't use the NSFW one, pixilated one is too pixilated to be discernible when it's cropped to the right size, and I just decided to have fun with it instead of using a boring band promo haha. Idk, would have used something else if it created a problem but Tiny Engines favorited my tweet of it and the band didn't ask us to use something else so, yeah.
Listening to Home for the first time in full since this was released. This is my AOTY and musically their best but I strongly doubt it will ever impact me or mean as much as that album does. Honestly think an album like Home comes along once, there is nothing like it and I love it/need it so much
This is one of those albums that I'm glad I don't have to write about right away. There's just a lot to unpack and I don't think I'd do it justice without more time. Right now I'd probably score it somewhere in the 8.5 territory though.
I don't get why people put so much stock into reviews as if it's an affront to their own enjoyment of the subject.
So have we figured out all the past references/possible references between albums? I know we have: "An Introduction To The Album" referencing "Weathered" "Life In Drag" referencing "An Ode To The Nite Ratz Club" "Goodness Pt 2" possibly referencing "An Introduction To The Album" "Opening Mail For My Grandmother" possibly referencing "Discomfort Revisited" "End Of Reel" sort of calling back to the title "Our Lives Would Make A Sad, Boring Movie" "Fear Of Good" possibly referencing "Your Deep Rest" The repeated drum hits at the end of "Goodness Pt 2" and "End Of Reel" mirroring the repeated guitar melody in "An Introduction To The Album" and "Dendron" Not sure if there are any more.
Especially a review like that, which I think we can all pretty much agree didn't say anything of substance. If you're going to get upset, at least get upset over a review that says something.
i have tried everything and i can't get sun to play in full on my phone. it cuts out 50 seconds before it should end.
I guess it's hard, bc I play in bands and I would kill to ever make a record in my lifetime that sounds as good as this one, just production wise.
I know! The first time I listened to the album I was anticipating that moment because of all of you and god if only you could have felt my rage... Plays fine on my computer though, and I've replaced it multiple times.
