Would love the band to do one of those things where they contribute to the Genius page, like honestly until that interview I had no idea Housebroken was about police abuse, there's so much I'm probably missing haha
Something about You In This Light sounds so nostalgic and introspective/retrospective. Especially the part below... Like a scene in a movie that's kind of sad or bittersweet but you know everything's gonna be okay. You in this light feels like a thing I can't remember. Clutching you close your body felt like December shook awake early from the rocks of your tremors. Tracing my thumb over the miles of your memory. Now a bit brighter with a smile and a laughter. One in the same and what am I to be after, dancing in private with the concept of never? You in this light feels like a thing I can't remember.
Yeah I think that's why I was attracted to that song right away. Vocals are a lot different than past songs. I don't know what your take is, but that song to me seems to be about a relationship/friendship of some kind that becomes stagnant, or maybe to the point you just don't like that person, but then something makes you rediscover the...ahem goodness in them.
Really? That never crossed my mind, but that would be really cool! Edit: I guess cool might not be the best choice of words because of the subject matter, but its really interesting to see the connection haha
Just a reminder, if you see something that you think is offensive, or that others may take offense to, then use the 'report' button and it will be addressed. The 'block' feature is also there if you do not want to see a certain users posts. Not doing those things, and feeling like you have to respond, only keeps the issue in the light and makes great threads like this one go down a path they shouldn't. Now back to good music; My wife kind of sort of likes this album and that makes me kind of sort of happy.
Cooled off and I'm back in this thread bc I can't quit you. Question I have been thinking of ideas for a tattoo about this band. I have some ideas but they don't have a logo do they? I haven't seen anything, but I also want to get something to mark how important Home (and this probably soon) is to me
Hmm. Just read through the last few pages of this thread... Interesting turn it's taken. I'm not going to say much but you can't really be surprised when someone who loves an album, defends said album even when it's recieving valid constructive criticism. Like I don't think any criticisms in here have been out of line by any means... But like, yeah the more you like an album of course you defend it.
Nah they don't, there isn't really a consistent font or design they use on the shirt Not really sure what you could do bar something from the album covers or lyrics :/
It took a couple days for me, it's now one of my favorites, that ending is just too damn good, gets me hyped every damn time.
Didn't mean I understood it haha. Just I can see that thematically it means something to Christian to have it there. There's the "in the night we celebrate in cyclical spin" lyrics within End of Reel itself.
lol i was sort of baffled by the snare hits at first but i love them now. they remind me of fugazi's end hits (hah)
Listened to this a couple times through, even though I avoided the hype more than most people, this still didn't live up to my expectations. It's still going to be in rotation for a while. Two Deliverances is bomb though
Goddamn, this thread moves fast. After catching up on (some of) this thread and spending the last week or so with this album, I just wanted to pop in and say that the hype is real, at least for me anyways. I actually found the album to be pretty immediate (much more so than Home, though that may have more to do with the rollout) and would echo @TheBaroness ' post about this being the album I, and arguably the genre, needs right now in the wake of so many great albums that are sometimes just too emotionally draining to play on repeat. "You can't stay anguished forever." Anyways, for that reason and several others that I've gone into elsewhere on the site, this album is already very, very special to me. I was lucky enough to be on tour last week when I heard it with the band together for the first time on our way out of Brooklyn. Seeing all of the scenery fly past the van windows made for a beautiful experience. I played it for my fiance last night when I got back because the album reminds me of her and what's ahead of us; we had an amazing night. Sorry for all the sap, I know everyone has their reasons but as others have said, I'm just so happy this album exists and I'm so happy others are feeling the same feelings I am right now. Anyways, some brief thoughts on what I like and what I don't like (despite thinking this album is essentially a 10/10): - I'm not particularly fond of the spoken word intro, but I think it works better than any of the alternatives. - I absolutely love "Goodness Pt. 2" - The interludes work really well because of how they lead into the songs that follow. I also love the field recordings that are included throughout the album. - "Two Deliverances" through "Opening Mail..." is a fucking perfect three-song run. - "Soft Animal" works better in context. - "Fear of Good" is probably my least favorite track here. - "You in This Light" and "End of Reel" are brilliant, and the latter is probably the best song this band has written yet. I like it more than "Dendron" and, as a whole, I enjoy this album and find it equally as challenging if not more so than Home. Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading if you did. It's gonna be pretty tough for anything to shake this from my AOTY spot; the only other albums from this year that have made me smile like this have been hip-hop releases haha.
writing a little thing about this for Magnet and I only have around 200 words. oh my, what a special challenge
Did anyone read the stuff about the interludes on the lyric sheet that came with the download (specifically for the latter two). Says a little more info about when and where they were recorded, and I thought that was really cool. The lyric sheet really fit in with what Christian was saying about transparency at the beginning of this cycle.
Which lyrics? If you could turn into something symbolic or some imagery or something that could be cool!
