I can't get two deliverances out of my head. It's starting to get a little annoying. I was just talking to my boss at work this morning, and the entire time, the main melody was playing in my head....it's a tad distracting haha
I consider myself a really good musician.. I mean I have a masters degree in music which I know only means so much.. That being said I have a lot of trouble putting into words the way music makes me feel bc it takes me to another place and I think this record does an incredible job of removing me from reality... I feel like I'm living in another world while listening to it, the whole album seems very cohesive and makes me want to enjoy nature more and appreciate being alive more.. again I am a player not a writer ha, I really struggle describe music, but I love discussing it and learning as much about it as possible.. Once school is over I'll probably sit down and learn every song on here which also helps deepen my connection to the music.. Outside of production and mixing these are incredibly written songs with great structures, chord progressions, and melodies. End of rant
usually scene in the way it's mentioned here is stereotypical AP.net/chorus music. going from brand new and twy and other pop punk music to "emo revival" stuff
Yeah, muddy is not the word I would use to describe the production. I think there's definitely room to criticize the mixing, though, even if I don't have a problem with it.
Yes. But Home is really difficult for me to listen to these days simply because of what was going on with me when I listened to that record obsessively a few years ago. So I may not be the best example of what you were asking.
I'll be obsessed with this in about two weeks when this sinks in, haha I'm sure. someone criticized the drumming for being to simplistic but fuck that - this is simple and elegant, and I like that not all bands need to have The World Is prog-tastic drums or can manage to make busy as fuck drums work in the context of songs (new IIOI). sometimes less is more, and this proves it I love that this is a focused, more popish album
I really like the metaphor in Two Deliverances. I could be off, but I think the "Guardians" are guarding someone's personal life, and the song is about getting to know someone you are falling in love with. And I guess the person Christian is falling in love with has a troubled past, so it feels strange getting to know them because he feels like he shouldn't know that information. Does anyone else have any interpretations of Two Deliverances?
circle-jerk alert how does it feel creating the most important album of the last 10-20 years? will you break up now? are you trans?
when i saw them in april Christian said to the drummer, 'your snare's good?' before (I think their first time) playing Piano Player live.
My attempt at an interpretation is the guardians are like literally pictures or metaphorically memories of people/things that have happened and the narrator wants to get closer to the person but feels like they don't truly know them? I prefer your interpretation to be honest haha
not hard to understand ALL of these topics where discussed in this thread by people here - I'm just pointing it out I think its wild that people are interested in all of that here and speculate about it
