Rh and Thrice threads are similar to be honest... but yeah, the way people engage art is through criticism... we should be able to have that
there's a difference between criticism and saying that the band didn't execute what they wanted to do correctly without even knowing what they wanted to do! real difference between something like housebroken and some snare hits
I hope it didn't seem like I was trying to silence you, just offering a counter-opinion. I think its just really tough for people to accept there's anything wrong with an album if you have a deep personal connection with it. But I definitely think opposing opinions are important, that's kind of the reason for these forums, so we can discuss things.
The guitar tones are incredible though, just because they don't have effects doesn't mean they don't sound good.. I get the snare hits on goodness pt 2 but not at the end of the record..: if people can't figure out what it means than it probably means it was poorly executed.. I actually really like them on goodness pt 2 with the bird sounds.
Like regardless of whether there's too much gushing or whatever about the band here, the fact there are 117 pages of discussion about the album and the band especially considering how they're relatively new compared to like Brand New is really awesome to see, this band got me into the scene and love that people share that sort of passion.
I agree with most of this but not at all about the guitar tones :/ But you're treating "this productions is hollow" and "the snare hits at the end are pointless" as criticism that isn't allowed
wasn't talking about any specific comment I find stuff like "omg snare hits = genius" amusing... and this is from someone who found that smart and cool... but come on Leitmotif - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I dunno, I think people have been pretty open about Thrice critiques, to the point that Dustin has addressed them more than once. It's a lot harder to do here because of where popular opinion is right now with the hotelier.
it depends on how you state it. real difference between calling out the band's decisions and not enjoying what happened, some people have said it specifically in the former
honest question what's this "scene" people talk about so much in this thread? I'm not from the US so I don't get to go to shows and so on...
"Shitty production" is subjective though. "Pointless" also subjective. Not liking it is fine, and explaining why you don't like it is cool I would say but these aren't blanket statements. I don't think the production is shitty. I think it was a great decision to make things slightly muddier. It captured the vibe I think they were going for better.
I don't think anyone is saying the snare hits are genius they are just saying that they see the meaning of them and how they tie into the record
I have to drive from Springfield to St. Louis and back today for my little brother's HS graduation, so I think I'm just going to listen to the album on repeat for the six hours so I can tell everyone EXACTLY what this album means and there will be NO DISAGREEMENTS WITH MY OPINION!
Is the production on here actually muddy?? I find things very clean and crisp.. Just bc the vocals are lower in the mix doesn't mean it's muddy production
idk for lack of a better word the collective of bands like this, twiabp etc and going back to bands like american football and sunny day real estate, before i only really listened to like standard alt rock/metal
I don't think I belong to any scene or community. I just go to shows of bands/artists I like. Sometimes I do wish I was part of specific "scenes" more though because things seem tight knit and cool.
to an extent yeah but more like recent bands that share the genre/style i didn't mean scene in the community or like lifestyle context, but don't want to say emo revival lol
I'm a 29 year old music teacher that likes punk and emo... Definitely not part of any music scene haha, I'd like to think I am kind of part of he community on this site and enjoy a lot of the bands popular on here.. It ends there though. I guess I just love music in general.. Always loved that while this site is big on bands like brand new and hotelier it also gives a ton of attention to other genres
Honestly my main criticism with this album is the lyrics, I find Home is a lot easier to understand and straightforward, this is far more poetic and while it works really well in places I'm a bit lost in others. Still trying to work out what the whole icons imagery is about in Two Deliverances but I'll guess I'll get it in time
