don't expect to like this one more than home (if at all) for a long while. the connection is too strong and this record is just meant to be a grower
I think that (so far) it's a tie for me - same band doing different styles, with a different feeling and atmosphere we'll have to see how it ages...
I'm sure most bands do. Four/five people are never going to agree on everything, they usually just have to trust each other and I think it's pretty usual for the lyricist to have the main opinion to do with direction of the album thematically with things like album art or stuff like adding a poem for an intro. The band can probably see that those things mean something to him in relation to the themes on the record.
I think they could hang it up and be happy. They left 3 really solid albums, sparked a ton of conversations, and clearly impacted many people in the scene. Not many bands can say that. *****EDIT***** I am not trying to infer anything from the interview. Simply just saw a lot of post about tension, quotes, and misquotes about stuff and was simply just trying to put a somewhat positive spin on it.
I really don't know if this will take over Home for me, but it's such a different beast and I know I'll at least love it as much
Fear of Good is probably in my top three. It's such a beautiful song. When I'm not listening to the record in full, I'm mostly playing You In This Light -> Fear of Good -> End of Reel.
I think it has to do with the theme of echoing. Not really sure what it means, but I think its deeper than what Home did.
As of now home is still higher but I could see this over taking it within a year if it happens. I just can't tell, if I can listen to this a hundred time and still find new things to love about it than it may take over home, until than I won't know... I really appreciate the risks that they took making this, it would have been easy to write a record in he same vein as the last one
Really not fussed about the snare at the end, just change the song or skip it. I agree it seems like a bit of a last minute weak attempt at tying the album together but it isn't offensive really
As far as production I like how it sounds for the most part. Drums sound pretty good to me. Just wish the voice cut through more. If they adjusted something (besides volume) on vocal track it would make it a lot easier to make out what's being said when the guitars get loud.
Just because someone has a good reason to do something doesn't make it a good idea or executed correctly.
how about you listen to their meanings for things before you call them out on not executing something correctly?
I just think the band is really smart. Everything on this record feels very deliberate. Not sure if I'm blindly putting this band on a pedestal or if I'm right, but I'm really excited to spend the next year trying to figure out all the details of this record and what it means. Edit: This is my 100th post! That's awesome! haha
It wasn't meant to be an attack. I do really enjoy the record. But example, I get the meanings of the snares and trying to tie the album together and apparently reference to Home but to me it just feel forced as opposed to the guitar on Dendron.
I think it would be pretty hard to argue that there is a "point" to them without hearing it directly from the band. Even if they had some deeper thematic meaning, that doesn't necessarily mean that what they were trying to do was effective. Pretty sure this is where I will land too. As of now, there are probably six songs from Home that I love more than anything on here.
