Had a real chance to sit down and listen finally after a hectic few days. It's really great. I don't have any in depth analysis quite yet
That's kind of how I feel. I've given it a listen a few times already but there's so much going on I really need to let it all sink in.
I put Goodness Pt 1 at the beginning because I'm a rebel. Does anyone know why they left it off? I just like the song and want to hear it when I play the album.
As much as I think it would fit, they probably just weren't feeling it on the album. Or maybe they wrote it with Goodness Pt 2 but didn't want that long of a song on the album so they split it up? I actually think the work so well together. Not sure why they left it off though
I'm actually glad they left it off and released it a while before they put out the album. Being familiar with the melody and the last few lines made Goodness pt. 2 all the more catchy and impactful. I also think it acts as a pretty effective segue between Home and Goodness.
Now I think Opening Mail is the best song on here. I haven't even tried to decipher much of the lyrical content on this yet, but that song has some amazing melodies.
Opening Mail never goes where I think or really want it to go...I like the song, but I feel like it holds back
I love Two Deliverances in general but the lyrics definitely make it better. Funny you say that and I'm glad you mentioned it cause that's one of my issues with the album. So much damn strumming and not nearly enough picking. Like hardly any (other than Settle the Scar). In Sun they strum the same chord for literally two minutes...ugh. Also, referring to that 5/4 part in End of Reel you mentioned, I like that part in general, but you don't think it comes out of nowhere? I think it's so random, like, "let's just end it with this thing..."
Today, Two Deliverances reminded me musically of One Direction's "Fireproof". Don't know why that came into my head, but it did. It's not a slight; I love that 1D song.
favorite part of the album. idk it's so meditative. the whole song and album seem to open up at that point
You In This Light has been stuck in my head for the past 3 days since i heard it. that and a line from Two Deliverances, "But if I want them too will they come to me soon? Will they fluctuate between midnight and past noon? Was kind of banking on a future that'd be involving you but I couldn't ask this of you." and that moment in Opening Mail as others have mentioned, after the group vocals chant "I'm coming for you" and everything just stops and it's just Christian's voice for like half a second before returning, and in End of Reel where their voice is mixed into the music and Christian just yells "THE KIND OF THING THAT HANGS INSIDE A MOMENT" so many moments on this record that make me so happy
Those are almost all of my favorite moments too. BUT, what about the second chant in Opening Mail later in the song, where the group vocals sing "I'm coming for" then it cuts to just Christian saying "you..." ugh, I can't think of another song that there's something I really love and something I really hate.
Even though there were two singles, Goodness Pt. 1 feels like the only lead up to this album. Honestly if they just put out that song and the album trailer the album listen would have been incredible. It fits as such a perfect lead up.
For some reason (probably cause all the hype) before I heard this I wanted to dislike it. Finally gave it a proper listen and it is pretty great. Definitely same tier as Home. I'm definitely not really loving the first 3 songs. Everything else is fantastic though!
The end of "End of Reel" is so good, when he starts saying the "with the sight of you brimming" It gets me every damn time.
I like this album, but there are a few choices here that really hold me back from loving it, the mixing chief among them.
