I stayed away from any of the pre-release stuff (including "Goodness Pt. 1"). I'm really happy with that decision. This works really well as a full piece.

I love the bits in Opening Mail where the chorus vocals just get cut off, it makes the song for me! Also I haven't been particularly annoyed by any times the vocals get obscured by the music etc apart from maybe Piano Player, where else do you mean?

Soft Animal is the best song on the record by a country mile.

About the vocals dipping down.. I've thought about this a lot.. When you see a band live and the music gets loud.. What happens the vocals get buried.. When there are quiet parts the vocals seem like they are louder.. This record has a very live feel to it. When Christian announced the record on his blog he talked about wanting music to be honest to how the band sounded live, I think they did an incredible job capturing that

But two deliverences and you in this light though...

I didn't like you in this light when I listened to the clips but it just keeps getting better for me

You In This Light is going to be the In Framing of this record for me, going to take me a while to really appreciate but like so catchy I love it

I think I'm forming a lot of unpopular opinions about this album. I just listened with the lyrics for the first time and it didn't do much for me unfortunately. :concerned:

The harmony on the word goodness in the third verse or end of reel... Perfect.

Do you feel like they are poorly written or just hard to connect with?

Haha we need someone to keep us fanboys in check before we petition May 27th to be a national holiday in recognition of its greatness and declare it better than every Beatles record put together

Haha yes... Bc I feel like I can't listen to anything else right now.. Also there is nothing wrong with not liking this record, it's going to be more divisive than home I just hope it brings in more fans and the old ones stick around bc of their love for the last record

That's hard to answer. It definitely feels way harder to connect with lyrically than Home. A lot of it just looks like flowery gibberish and I have no idea what it's about. That doesn't mean it's poorly written though. That's the beauty of art and lyrics how anyone can attach their own meaning to it. I probably don't have a clue what some of my favourite song lyrics are actually about.

Really loved this part from the spin review

Still, listeners too prideful to ignore the perceived immaturity associated with the dreaded E-word had mistaken it for another trivial rock’n’roll obscenity those same listeners would likely also forswear: earnestness. But whether or not this long-derided genre experienced (or is still experiencing) a second coming is irrelevant. What does matter is that a new generation of young bands — with their artistic convictions rooted in a compulsion to be as honest as they possibly can with themselves and their audiences — is quietly thriving, and Goodness may be the most crucial piece of evidence we have to confirm that.

Emo is dead; long live the Hotelier

The lyrics on here are definitely not poorly written, but that being said, I feel like half of it is just enough over my head to frustrate me. For the first time in awhile, I'm wishing I was back with my poet ex so she could decrypt a lot of these lines for me.

I can't wait to be home from work and listen to this a bunch more. After one listen last night, I can't say anything but that it's fantastic, but I'm excited to dig into the lyrics a little bit more and really dive into the album as a whole.

And as of my first listen, I really enjoyed the interludes and spoken word. I feel like they set the mood for the songs following them, and give the album a completely different feel. It really set the tone for me.

Haha genius can be a complete cesspit for lyrics occasionally, like how people turned the entirety of the new Radiohead into a break up album

There some things about "End Of Reel" that I find really fascinating, but I don't know if they were done deliberately.
The opening guitar riff totally throws me back to the opening riff in "Title Track" - almost to the point where I wonder if it's a reference (but I doubt it)
The point in the song where the timing changes reminds me of in Dendron where the beat changes a bit after the chorus and going into the big jam out before the last verse,
Also, when I first hear End Of Reel some of the chord progressions in the first verse totally reminded me of Dendron.
But anyway, I completely agree with @Zac Djamoos and I think @CoffeeEyes17 said it was well, that End Of Reel feels like the perfect closer for all their records this far.
