Only watching for Jennifer, at this point. The snobby rich kid thing lowers the stakes for me every time.
triple-post incoming: rewatching Josh Ruben's films since we are very likely showing Heart Eyes with him at this year's Fest. Werewolves Within is fun, but Scare Me is genuinely super unique. Might not be for everyone, but the stage-play meets anthology thing works really well when you have great comedic actors that can carry it. More people should check that one out on Shudder. Firing up Alice Sweet Alice for the first time now.
For as bad as it looks, its just such a ridiculous and fun movie, and everyone I've shown it to has been pleasantly surprised.
The Exorcist III was good. Great performances, creepy vibes, and good looking filmmaking, especially the Georgetown exteriors. Unfortunately that scene had been spoiled for me in a bunch of "scariest scares in movies" lists, so it wasn't super effective, but it still looked very cool. The plot was pretty convoluted and you could see where they changed directions and hamfisted in tie-ins to the original. Overall very solid watch.
Yeah, I had a blast with it, haha. I was expecting it to be worse than it was but it’s actually just a very funny, silly, and competent children’s movie that felt like it was written by an 11 year old (complimentary). I think my friend liked it as well. I was looking at the cast afterwards and it seemed like every name I clicked on went on to have roles in different Final Destination movies, which I thought was weird/funny.
It only has like a few hundred letterboxd reviews, definitely the most potential of any of the weird obscure movies I've found.
VinSyn is doing their out of print sale and just put up Asylum of Terror, a fun late 90s Halloween set slasher. My review: https://boxd.it/7u3DI9
I’m playing A Knock at the Door, the Final Girl based on The Strangers, and I have The Strangers on in the background. I’ve actually never seen it because home invasion isn’t really my jam but it seems eerie enough. At the very least, it’s surprisingly subdued so far which I like, even if it’s also a bit bland.
