Don’t let me dissuade you! I think with the right crowd it could have been fun. I do recommend the original for some good campy fun but there’s honestly no similarities between the new one and the original except someone gets “addicted” to using the board.

I think one of the big differences between bad horror now and bad horror from the past is the use of CGI. For me it really does get in the way of the fun and it’s one of my biggest concerns about the upcoming Toxic Avenger remake.

my immediate impulse is to say no because these things go sideways pretty quickly around these parts but I'm in a good mood today so I'll elect to say sure instead. not sure what all it entails but I'm sure you or someone else can brief me on thw details

 

Super simple all you really need to do is supply a category - see examples from previous years. Then watch whatever movies you want, one for each person's category. It's just to spur discussion and a lot of us don't even make it through the whole list, so no pressure.

Want to get categories from everyone in the next week and a half or so so I can make the list and we can start on Friday 9/5.

I am about to watch Castle Freak. This one’s been on my list for ages.

Lunch Meat is fun. I have not seen any of the others on the OG list. Mad Mutilator/Ogroff is apparently a classic

 

What 4k players does everybody have? I have a Sony that fucking sucks, doesn’t play certain 4ks and freezes up. I am seeing that the panasonic UB820 is the best, but I don’t know if I can justify a $500 purchase right now

 

i'm assuming you have the UBP-X700? that's what i currently have. i know it fucks up on some triple layer discs, but if you can find a way to cool it down, it works a bit better.

ideally i'd like a region-free UB820, but that'll be more on top of the $500, so i'm gonna wait until i'm in a better financial situation to even go for that. i know Panasonic also makes a cheaper model, the UB420P-K, that some people seem to enjoy, and when i was at Best Buy a couple days ago, it was marked down to $250.

 

Castle Freak was cool but it was a bit uglier/meaner than I wanted.

 

Going for a cozy watch before bed, so the Old Dark House it is.

Watched the Vanishing last night, talk about a horror movie I'd hate to happen to me.

 

J Lo's The Cell is some weird, wild stuff. Haven't seen this one since it came out on video and didn't expect much, but it's got some creepy visuals and a good premise.

 

there are the makings of something good or at least something really cool there. just a shame it never quite gets to either
