I kinda think getting some new personalities in here and having to start a new thread shifted the tone a little. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing at at all and feel like everything would eventually course correct, but happening so close to what happened with digitalsea made it seem a little more negative. I definitely miss them and what they brought here.

I don't think the quality of discussion has waned though. This place has been around for awhile and there will be ebbs and flows and transition periods, but I still think that sense of community and openness is strong here.

Anyway, Bloodlines was tight. At least top 3 of the franchise if not higher.

 

If it weren’t for Dawson’s Jack McPhee playing a total jerk in the original, I think Bloodlines would possibly be my favorite. But as it is, it’s solidly number two.

 

my favorite part about bloodlines or perhaps even the final destination franchise in general now is how they fuck with you with setting up potential deaths only to let the people survive until of course 20 minutes later when they actually do die

 

Yeah the sister getting it before the brother, and then finding out he’s not of that bloodline got me good.

My favorite part of Bloodlines was the septum piercing tease and the subsequent burn fake-out, only for the septum piercing (and others) to later play a role in his actual death. When we were led to believe he “merely” burned to death after the piercing getting wrapped up in the chain, I was so disappointed, so his actual death was such a fun payoff.

Let’s not ignore the context that he was SUPER weird and aggressive with me and accused me of being a bigot but wouldn’t expand. He was being a fucking weirdo. Good riddance!

I didn’t paint anyone any way, that’s what happened. It was super weird, it didn’t need to happen, and now he doesn’t post here anymore

 

I can totally see where @Rowan5215 is coming from, but for me personally, I’ve always appreciated the fact that I could come in here and be like, “man… I did not like (insert movie here),” and the responses were always like jovial and light-hearted. This place always felt like the healthiest thread on this site, tbh.. and I think that’s very specific to the horror community. I’d hate to see that change!

 

In terms of the overall conversation, while I have not really seen too much of it in this thread, there has been a shift in posters taking a dismissive or overconfident stance on films/tv/music and then not engaging in any sort of good faith discussion about the art. It stinks, but again I’d say this thread in particular has always been one of the better ones

 

Yeah I think a little grace is always the answer. Something that's always teeming in online discussion, I know. If someone is not engaging in good faith that always sucks and should be handled accordingly or just ignored. I think we should also be aware that there are all types here, some people here are amazing at critical analysis and have a huge plethora of esoteric knowledge and some of us are reduced to "that was tight when their head exploded" or "I didn't engage with that but am struggling to put into terms why."

This has been one of my favorite places on the internet to hang out for like the past 5 years and I truly like and respect all of yall a ton (newer folks included). I do also miss @digitalsea and I hope they’re well but I really don’t want anything to jeopardize this place or cause an implosion so let’s not even tiptoe towards that option!!
