i jokingly called the philippous dumb youtube bros on here and got called out but then a week or two later i stumbled onto a youtube interview with both of them and realized i was actually right lol
And nobody outside of online horror nerds knew who he was. To most cinematic observers outside that small bubble Ti West is a 2020's horror guy. Feeling like we're being pedantic and turning a mountain into a molehill here. You knew what I meant.
With respect, Ti West was a big enough name after House of the Devil that there was A LOT of hype for The Innkeepers and even when that was considered a letdown he had enough goodwill that subsequent releases were pretty heavily anticipated until they suddenly were not, before the obvious comeback with the X trilogy. But maybe I was also just deep in the horror thread bubble and none of this was actually happening outside of that, idk. Speaking of, I’m still so bummed by how much I disliked Maxxxine.
Hated Longlegs. Way too brooding and self serious yet wasn’t scary or interesting (?) imo and the twist was not well done. Funny enough I started The Monkey this morning and just the tone and forced dialogue actually seem to fit this story.
I am entertained by The Monkey a lot. This one doesn't take itself seriously and I like that. Pretty solid addition to the King adaptation-verse.
I have so much to catch up on. This is the summer of blind spots. I need to see: Longlegs The Monkey FD Bloodlines Nosferatu Under the Skin The 28 Days movies (all)
2025 top 10 update: 1. Weapons 2. Bring Her Back 3. Sinners 4. Together 5. Companion 6. Final Destination Bloodlines 7. Ugly StepSister 8. Opus 9. Death of a Unicorn 10. 28 Years Later
Perfect order if you want to watch all these I’d maybe start with 28 Days then watch a movie between each one, if you don’t want to watch em all in a row
