I think I forgot he was doing that! Cool. I would probably ask for another original story from him but he’s earned 100% trust
My CMX showing of Weapons had trailers for The Black Phone 2 Caught Stealing Twinless Tron: Ares Conjuring: Last Rights
Mannnn Weapons was the real fucking deal. Cregger really made the Magnolia version of The Blair Witch Project but 10x more violent lol. Total banger front to back, especially that third act. A lot funnier than I was expecting and way more of a film's film. Barbarian is very good and grows on me with time, but this was actually great. Pretty easily my favorite of the year so far.
Nothing better than when the hype perfectly delivers. This was like the opposite of Longlegs for me lol
Hah that was fucking bonkers. You know I love that kind of shit Watching Together and Weapons in the same week, what a treat
I said it in the other thread but huge week for fans of bells with weird symbols on them in horror, whoever they are I hope they know they're winning right now also yeah it was the opposite of Longlegs, because Longlegs was good (I'm so sorry I'll log off now)
This has me hyped for tomorrow night! After some disappointing horror earlier in the year, I’m stoked on what we’ve gotten the last few months.
Watched Seoul Station and Terrified last night to continue the early start to spooky season. Terrified was freaky as hell and I think I may have liked it even more than When Evil Lurks. Great practical effects.
I'm actually glad I didn't see it back to back with Together because I'm happy to simmer on it for a couple of days
update. maybe a bit of recency bias at play here idk 1. Bring Her Back 2. Sinners 3. 28 Years Later 4. Together 5. Weapons 6. Companion 7. Presence 8. Final Destination: Bloodlines 9. M3GAN 2.0 10. Until Dawn 11. Ash 12. Death of a Unicorn 13. Opus 14. The Monkey 15. Wolf Man 16. Rosario eight months into the year and my top ten is already pretty solid full of bangers
Weapons: So having read the Weapons screenplay a few months back, I was interested to see how Cregger would handle what I guess I would call a looser tonal transition about halfway through-- going from a relatively somber affair (not without some laughs, though) to a off-the-wall funhouse mirror. I thought it was mostly successful, and I had a good time, but I did find myself yearning a bit for the atmosphere in the first half. Still, it felt a bit like going from some lost classic from John Carpenter to a B-tier Stephen King novel (and I say that as a King fan). Speaking of, I also thought the movie would live and die with how Gladys was presented, and she worked-- at times she reminded me a bit of Pennywise in the 2017 adaptation.
Funny enough I also had the Pennywise comparison in mind, but I was thinking more 1990 Tim Curry Pennywise. The second half had a kind of an early 90's King adaptation campiness vibe to it. Which I loved
Moved up my Weapons showtime a few hours to right after work! Been a long time since I’ve been this excited to see a movie. I usually despise going opening weekend when it’s busy but I want to avoid spoilers and can’t wait any longer lol
