Eh, one could argue the filmmakers have to be much more resourceful when crafting low-budget "slop" like the public domain character shit so I'd say they're pretty even keel with cookie-cutter modern IP

i have no attachment to the Insidious or Conjuring franchises, but the trailers i've seen for any of their movies (most recently the upcoming Insidious movie) looked pretty bad, so i don't think i'd ever have interest, tbh. in my head, i've always kind of called it the "Blumhouse Effect". more often than not, aside from some of the Flanagan/Peele films they've produced/distributed (and i guess more recently Obsession), i've either hated their releases or found them to look unappealing or low-effort. i guess Wan definitely had a hand in that though.
Mirror Mirror has led me down a DTV rabbit-hole and I now have a small list I plan on working through.
We also just saw this before the Invite, my wife described it as the most basic horror movie they can possibly make, specially the timing of that tunnel jump scare.

Just finished Backrooms.. When I was young I complained about wanting more bleak endings. Now I’m old, soft, and want at least a goddamn glimmer of hope at the end lol.
Send help was really fucking good and one of my favorites this year. Didn't expect it to be as good as it is
kinda forgot that was this year but it was pretty solid. After watching Evil Dead Burns I think my top 3 is Bone Temple, Evil Dead, and Backrooms.

I saw the trailer for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma the other day and it looks fantastic. I'm so excited to see it.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story really goes for broke in the shock and stupid departments. It’s almost admirable how committed the showrunners and actors are. I only watched the Dahmer season prior and that had a much more serious tone that this type of storytelling needs. Gein takes his “proclivities” and makes them either feel causal and terrifying or they’re played as a joke which feels tone-deaf. Ryan Murphy is gonna Ryan Murphy, I suppose.
A lot of my stress from the last year or so will be resolved this week. I'm happy to be able to return to watching movies daily again. Last night I attempted to put on the Mummy but didn't want something that long and went with Army of Darkness. Gonna knock out the other movies before seeing Burn this week.
