Finally caught Obsession on vod. Really enjoyed it.. Inde was fantastic. Curry is clearly a force to be reckoned with. But, a 94% RT score?… I don’t know about that. I don’t need the lore shoved in my face, but I would’ve liked a bit more exploration.
Friendly reminder a 94% on RT isn't the same as, for example, a 9.4/10 on IMDB, they simply aren't measuring the same thing
No I understand I’m totally speaking anecdotally and by no means am I shitting on it. Juuuuust stating my opinion.
i liked it a lot, but don't know if i love it. a second viewing would definitely help me solidify my thoughts.
Of course.. that’s all I’m saying. I only referenced the score because I sort of use that as a barometer and that’s pretty darn close, in RT terms, to being perfect. Like yall are telling me Jason Takes Manhattan is an 11%? A swing like that!?! It’s rigged.
Question for the thread! I have a buddy who has always been averse to horror out of straight up fear but is opening himself up to the idea and wants to take small steps. He asked me for a recommendation and I'm struggling. He has seen some classics (Halloween and some Hitchcock) and loves them. Also loves Jaws. He is a film guy and went to school to study Cine Arts. He enjoyed Widow's Bay just recently and that led to him asking me. The tdlr is that I'm looking for good solid horror recs to give to someone who loves film overall but has not spent really anytime in the genre.
I like Grimace's suggestions. I would add Hereditary and Sinister but those might be in the "too soon" category
Yeah he's definitely not ready for those two - Hereditary is where he wants to arrive at eventually but knows enough people that were like traumatized by it (complimentary) that he is definitely gun shy. Grimace's are good and I think The Thing would be a logical step
Hausu is a must for any fan of Jaws. Silence of the Lambs, Alien, Hereditary, Nope, Titane, the Sixth Sense, Train to Busan, the Descent, Saw, the Exorcist, Possession, It Follows, From Dusk Til Dawn, the Ring, and Poltergeist would be my classics to check out.
I think Evil Dead is now my favorite franchise--Scream ruined its streak for me w/the last one (and of course Spyglass being a garbage company)
Echoing some of the less gruesome/more film-y picks that have been suggested so far - The Shining, Get Out, NOPE, Alien. I would add (in no particular order) Misery, Night of the Living Dead, Suspiria, Jacob's Ladder, Carrie, Black Christmas, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, American Psycho, Candyman, maybe It Follows. Hellraiser when he's ready for it. Would also be interesting to get his reaction to some more contemporary hits, like Weapons or Backrooms. Maybe 28 Years Later, Heretic, or Sinners.
