had a great time with Leviticus. as a gay man who grew up in a religious context (but was also privileged to have come to terms with my sexuality after deconstructing the prevailing Evangelical hermeneutic around it, but knows all too well how deep and intense the culture trying to suppress/exorcise it is), the religious elements felt a bit subdued in a way i would've liked to see expanded upon (one good example of this was that one girl snapping the rubber band on her arm over and over to "snap her out of lustful thoughts", something very prevalent when i was growing up in the Evangelical church). it was also shorter than i expected, and i think a longer runtime exploring some of the prevailing conservative religious culture could've been nice (equally balanced with the horror elements). but it was very well-acted, and felt like such a unique take on an important topic that doesn't get a ton of coverage in film, horror or otherwise. solid 8.5 for me, maybe higher on repeat viewings.
also got the TSADACM trailer that i held off on watching, and i'm even more excited for this film now, are you fucking kidding me?
i've never heard of that before. i don't think we have those on the west coast. but yeah. what the fuck amc why didn't i get that trailer
HauntedWeen is such a three-star film with a five-star third act lol. The payoff i infinitely better than the setup, which is pretty standard hangout fare.
I don't know if anyone other than @OhTheWater will care, but I just learned Gorman Bechard (of Psychos in Love and Disconnected fame) shot the cover of Hot Rod Circuit's Sorry About Tomorrow lol. Very small world for this site and thread in particular. Still love thar record.
Very happy that Disasterpeace is confirmed to be coming back, I would’ve been pretty disappointed if he wasn’t returning because of how damn good the score to It Follows was.
F13 7 is pretty meh imo but man Missy has such a brutally sad character arc with no redemption at all. Also, Dr. Crews is one of the absolute worst through and through
7 was easily bottom three for me on my first run-through (while 3D was probably in my top three) and now they've completely swapped places. One of my favorite comfort flicks from one of my favorite comfort series. I love that a franchise can change like that for viewers over time.
VII always felt like they had a psychic girl movie they couldn’t get made so they added Jason in it and the rest was history. Didn’t that one have a bunch of gore that got cut out of it too?
Yeah, not sure if there's a gore cut floating around like there is of Part 2(?) but I believe this is the case. Also the writing process wasn't quite what you described, but it was a case of "We need to introduce something fresh to the series" and was essentially pitched as Jason vs. Carrie
There is an Ash vs. Freddy vs. Jason comic as well as an Aliens vs. Predator vs. Terminator comic iirc
7 was the original placeholder for Freddy v Jason I believe but it obviously got shelved for another 15 years so they pivoted to a Carrie-like protagonist. Also the intro of Kane Hodder. The showdown at the end between Tina and Jason is an all timer
