Thought I'd get yelled at, but it looks like most agree it would be The Exorcist. Amazing movie, but it spawned my least favorite type of imitators.
I don’t know if I’ll finish it, but from what I watched, Monkey’s Magic Merry Go Round’s commitment to the bit was impressive even if I wasn’t necessarily loving it. I found it tough to watch just because of how disconcerting it was, and definitely better than I expected because of its creativity and the obvious passion behind it. Very much felt like a feature length Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, which a younger me would’ve been so excited about. I think I want to watch my first Bava movie, which I’ve somehow never done. Not sure whether to start with Black Sunday, Black Sabbath, or something else. I know Aaron or someone in here mentioned Shock recently, which is what got me interested.
Bay of Blood or Blood and Black Lace are highlights. Tough to really go wrong though. I also like Kill Baby Kill
I am not the person who mentioned Shock, but Black Sunday is great if you're looking for more of a gothic, black and white feel
Rewatching The Haunting and am once again blown away all over again by how good it is. It’s gotta be one of the best horror adaptations and surprisingly faithful to the book. The set design, cinematography, writing, performances are all top notch; easily one of my favorite haunted house movies, maybe even my favorite although it’s been a while since I’ve watched The Changeling. “Why do you sleep on your left side?” “I read somewhere it wears the heart out faster”
Think I may finally watch the last Joe Bob episode tonight since I wasn't able to tune in when it aired. Messiah of Evil (which I've seen a few times) and The Last Horror Film, which is new to me.
jk, it is insanely hard to find five free hours when you have a baby to schedule around :( Did Ready or Not 2 instead and I don't know how it's possible for the last 20 minutes of a film to be so fucking good when the first hour and a half was so aggressively fine lol
Exorcist III is fucking awesome. Pretty much every movie to follow that features an exorcism has been dogshit.
Omg, They Will Kill You kicks so much ass lol...I was so wary of it being a Ready or Not ripoff but it's like, a totally sincere throwback to hyper-stylized 2000s music video directing. Like Kill Bill or John Wick but with satanists and Evil Dead stuff happening. What a hoot
Few days late, but the Exorcist is one of the most perfect horror films ever made. I love my slasher franchises too, but goddamn y’all are crazy.
Exorcist 1 and 3 are two of my top 10 ever made admittedly, this does make it funnier that the one in between is one of the worst movies of all time
The Exorcist is a great film with great performances and directing. For whatever reason, it feels less genre-specific to me...not like it's not scary, but it's not scary in the same way TCM is or scrappy in the same ways the other slashers listed are, and those are just components I love so much about that era of horror. There's a separation that just makes it easier for me to let go of. Probably doesn't hurt that I enjoy a good slasher over possession films almost every time.
The Exorcist is an excellent film, but I don't think it's better than Texas Chain Saw Massacre (or maybe even Halloween). It's better than any of the Fridays or Nightmares, but I would rather throw on one of those sequels than any of the Exorcist movies.
Scream is the weakest if you are putting all of the films together, imo. Only 1 is worth keeping, I just happen to like it more than The Exorcist.
