He was also saying it’d be different directors and writers. Could be a really fun way to highlight up and coming horror people. I’d love a horror version of the world peace wish from the Simpsons episode, give me a full blown bloody alien invasion.
Obsession spoilers, a comparison I haven't really seen mentioned is Get Out. Obviously very different movies at their core for sure, one being about toxic relationships and the other being about racism, but the thing they share is this nightmare of taking a back seat in your own body. Maybe it's just a form of possession with extra steps, but that's what makes it so compelling compared to something like a movie about demons and exorcism (plus you wouldn't really know from the marketing that that would be the nature of his wish). Sidenote, really interesting spending the entire movie following a protagonist who is essentially the villain, one who maybe doesn't have evil intentions at the outset but does evil all the same.
Would be really interesting to see the movie from Nikki's perspective, which would make the Get Out comparison more interesting. But yeah, main character as a nice guy villain and the main antagonist has a victim is an interesting dynamic.
Lee Cronin's The Mummy was cool but it did not need to be 2 hours and 15 minutes long lol. I see a great 1 hour and 40 minute film in here. It also feels like he wanted to make another Evil Dead film which is not a complaint at all
Re: alien resurrection talk the other day, I completely forgot that Distephano was also Tuco in Breaking Bad lol (and also a soldier in The Rock, but that I remembered)
I just watched the first Aliens vs. Predator movie and it was really fucking bad so I am definitely not going to watch the second one if it's apparently even worse lol
It really stumbles toward the end but I had a blast when I saw it in the theater. I might watch it again this weekend.
Is God Is was awesome. Not horror by any means but a really tight and efficient revenge thriller. Excellent debut!
Second viewing of Obsession was more than worth it. So many new things to pick up on when you're not 110% stressed. I may end up seeing this 4+ times on the big screen lol
When I saw it [Obsession] on Saturday the Dolby theater was maybe a quarter of the way full. Now every showing in my area is nearly fully booked several days in advance. Word of mouth has been insane.
