I have officially seen every Alien movie. Covenant was.... fine? I would even say I thought it was good. The cast was great and the visuals looked amazing just like Prometheus but I just watched it like two days ago and I already can't really remember much of what the actual story was. I might owe this one a rewatch but I kind of think it just existed for me Meanwhile, Romulus fucking ROCKED. Granted, this was my first watch of every single movie in this franchise, but this one was probably my... favorite on first viewing? Sorry for the blasphemy lol. I thought it took every different aspect of the franchise (horror, action, set design, casting) and blended it all together in a perfect way. I actually already want to watch this one again, along with the first two. The rest I'll come back to later. This actually might be the second time that Fede Alvarez has come in and directed my dark horse pick for favorite movie in a beloved horror franchise lol, his Evil Dead is my favorite one Ranking on first viewing (and there will be repeated viewings of probably the top 3 of these soon): 1. Alien 2. Alien Romulus 3. Aliens 4. Prometheus 5. Alien Covenant 6. Alien 3 7. Alien Resurrection I hear the AVP movies are not good at all but I kind of want to watch those too lol, but we'll see. I actually might do a Predator watchthrough first also, I've only ever seen the first Predator movie and that was like 15 years ago EDIT: Forgot to mention that I do plan on watching Alien Earth too whenever I get a few days free
I thought about this after my initial comments and maybe mean spirited isn't actually what I meant. I think what I intended was that it just went way more extreme than I would've expected based on the premise (I actually had no expectations as I had avoided the trailer). The one thing that would be fairly easy to point to was the cat dying and then Nikki using it several times to humiliate and/or terrify Bear but even that didn't come across as mean but rather just kinda shocking. I found Sarah's death and Ian's death to be much more powerful especially coupled with how it ends
I think my free ticket for the month drops this weekend. Might try to go Sunday. I am very interested in Backrooms as well. Okay, serious question for the thread: I used our donations from the first screening to purchase a projector and screen so we wouldn't have to worry about tech at other venues. (Next three months of programming locked in as of yesterday, btw!) Anyways, the weather is supposed to warm up tomorrow and I need to take the projector for a spin. This obviously means christening it with the best "drive-in" or projector film possible. Suggestions? Currently considering a Texas Chainsaw Massacre // Halloween 3 double-feature.
It's still fresh on my brain and it kinda fits the bill, but Targets jumps to mind. That may not be the right vibe though haha
THe first AVP is fun if a little generic, feels very early 2000s action movie. THe second one is awful
AVP is fun as fuck. Very good for a PG-13 monster mash movie set in a shape-shifting pyramid in Antarctica. Rquiem is one of the worst movies I've ever seen (except no one can really "see" it because the lighting is non-existent)
Does anyone here know anything or has anyone here used Cytube? It looks like we could all schedule watch parties together in here if there was ever interest...
Raygun Busch went in on Obsession on Letterboxd lol but more so went in on Perkins-style modern horror in general. Makes me even more interest to see where I land on it tbh. Might try to catch it this weekend.
Obsession was fucking incredible. Hilarious and terrifying. Was blown away by every performance. Especially Inde.
I wouldn't use the words mean spirited. Maybe miserable instead? It's just not a fun experience. It's so deeply uncomfortable you leave the theater having really gone through it. I laughed a few times at some absurd moments, but I still wouldn't call any of those parts funny! Maybe more like you're in shock. Haha. It's brilliant and worth watching. But not something you want to revisit for fun.
Red Rooms is great. I randomly have the chance to see Obsession in half an hour or so. Weirdly almost tempted to stay home, just because I'm moody and waiting on my Prestiwue to be refilled and have a little bit of a headache. But it's really hard for me to turn down a movie lol.
