idk I’m on the first episode and they just made it very clear that there’s only one nice restaurant on the island. That’s no way to live imo.
It really does. I’ve kind of landed on “not for me” simply because it bummed me out in a way I find unpleasant, but it is good and I’m really excited for people I know to watch it.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I’ll likely see it again. Part of it not being for me is I think my tolerance for nihilistic movies has dropped just because of everything. Similar to me checking out of shows that use rape as a plot device for a character being damaged, I butt up against horror movies that seem to (and I understand this is very woke of me) revel in violence that happens to women and use suicide as an ultimate solution. Again, those are all personal pet peeves and if you can past those, I’m sure this is a minimum four-star movie. Also, I felt like it took some huge leaps with character choices in the middle with the lunch or two things the side characters did towards the end that make zero sense, given all that’s going on with Nikki. Honestly, I would love a Halloween: Season of the Witch-type movie with whoever is making One Wish Willow. That’s something worth exploring.
Completely respect all of those points and preferences. I’ll be honest, I was unsure of how this was gonna land for me at around the first quarter to halfway mark - the tone was real tough to pin down and some of it wasn’t really working for me but I think it really came together nicely as it went on. Agree that some of it took a more surprisingly mean spirited approach than I was ready for but overall, I found it fascinating and honestly awesome, especially considering the performances and directorial debut
Halfway through the second episode of Widow’s Bay and I’m really enjoying this show. It is very funny. edit: BJ!!!!
So beyond hyped for Obsession. Watched all of his available horror stuff last weekend and loved it. Hoping for a good theater experience. Usually have fantastic luck but there was an older lady in our screening of Hokum that was literally just saying out loud exactly what was happening on the screen and i was constantly being taken out of the movie. (still loved it tho)
I liked obsession. After reading some of the comments in here beforehand I was expecting it to be more mean spirited? It definitely was just not in the way I thought it would be maybe?
I will say it was funnier than I expected but some people were laughing at everything, even stuff that wasn’t being played for laughs. Weird crowd.
this is my main draw for wanting to watch, but ppl saying the film is a bit mean spirited makes me a little wary. what are your thoughts?
I may have audibly said "oh fuck" on the brick scene because of the woman jumping out of her seat next to me lmao
