I remember there was a now-defunct forum dedicated to him and two other authors in the early 2000s. Man that takes me back lol
Buffalo Hunter Hunter is a big time vibe book. Really enjoyed it, even if I really didn't care for the zany/wacky ending.
I've only read My Heart Is a Chainsaw and will try some more of his stuff, but man I really want to like SGJ and just did not dig his prose at all.
Indian Lake trilogy was a lot of fun even if the references got a little out of hand. Gotta get to Buffalo Hunter Hunter soon
Totally get that and TBHH is a difficult read because of this but so rewarding. Might be my favorite of his.
I loooooved Hokum. My favorite McCarthy so far. I may be extra enthusiastic because I had an awful day and really enjoyed seeing it with a group of friends, but I thought it was close to perfect - the inverse of Longlegs where there are a few odds and ends that aren't fully explained, but it adds to the film instead of feeling cobbled together to me. McCarthy is very good at translating old-school haunted house scares into his specific modern visual style. He really knows how to create some striking imagery. My biggest gripe is that the female characters were nothing more than plot devices. Still, a great time at the theater.
I watched both Alien and Aliens for the first time tonight. Alien was actually significantly more of a slow burn than I was expecting but I was loving it by the end, almost all of the visual effects still look amazing and the set design is phenomenal Aliens was a fucking blast, although I watched the director's cut after my online research told me to and started to feel the length a little by the end. Really liked both of them a lot and plan on continuing before the whole series gets removed from HBO Max in two weeks, although I already know that I basically already watched the only ones people really like lol
Marshmallow was... not very good until the twist, which kind of totally blew my mind lol. Wild premise, lackluster execution, but probably worth the ride. Parents tonight, never seen it
Damn Frogman ruled. Very much a movie made for me. Feels like a full-length VHS segment. I think I need to pick up that Blu-ray. Now I want to do a double feature with Willow Creek which you wish went off the rails as much as Frogman does in the third act, but is still a cozy watch for me. Also finally got to Send Help and it is a blast. Always happy to see Raimi still has the juice and then to see that juice vomited into someone's face.
Watched Curse of Frankenstein, Night School, City of the Living Dead and rewatched Pieces this weekend. Good times.
Since my last post starting the Alien series I have now watched Alien 3, Resurrection and Prometheus I watched the assembly cut of 3 and definitely thought it was super solid if not nearly as good as the first two. Felt like a decent ending to Ripley's story Resurrection was.... not good at all and I am probably going to pretend it doesn't exist in my head canon. I'm sure I'm not alone there I actually really enjoyed Prometheus a lot even if it didn't really feel connected with the rest of the series at all to me. Some nice hard sci-fi with beautiful visuals
