It was pointed out by several others who have seen the movie in the other thread but basically there is a brief SA scene. Like I said, it is weirdly out of place for this movie but it wasn't enough (for me personally) to become more troubling than "that was such a weird thing to throw in". I'll spoiler tag more specifics for anyone that wants more info! Inmates escape from a prison and descend upon the cabin where the main characters are and to show how dangerous and unhinged one of the prisoners is, they play a "game" where he is pitted against Jason Segal's character inside a circle and the objective is to see which one of them can fuck the other one first. It's mainly played for laughs and is used as a way for them to get information out of Jason's character but it comes insanely close to him actually being raped
Pumped to finally have some downtime later tonight and finish Targets. Also may then throw on something else but idk what yet.
Thinking about Hokum a little more and I have a question. Not sure if I missed something. What was with the goats? Just some sort of red herring or a weird way to make Fergal seem like the “obvious” villain? Or was it just to foreshadow that drinking the spiked milk would help Ohm really face who he is and what haunts him? Regardless of the answer, some of his narrative choices really don’t work for me lol. Still, pretty good movie.
Night of the Demons is one of my favorite horror movies so I don’t disagree. My rec still stands though.
Things is like, the ultimate good-bad 80s horror film, but it's also an absolute endurance test to sit through and really plays better with friends/drinks lol. Watchable good-bad 80s horror, I would hard recommend Rats: Night of Terror and Spookies
spookies is a good recommendation. when people ask me for good-bad 80s horror i usually just assume they mean something campy/goofy unless i know otherwise haha
All great recs! Thanks fellas! I'll never watch Things again as long as i live, but i've seen night of the demons less times than the others so i'll go with that one
This is a good question and I had the same thought. I thought it was just simply a bad omen at first but then figured it was somehow the witch having a weird powerful draw to her/the building and the goats were being pulled into the property for that reason. Probably some combination of what you said too though tbh
oh i like that idea too, wish that had been made a little clearer. I also wonder what the skull in the final scene was about. also, very dumb complaint i know, but as cool as the TV scene was on its own, it felt a little too Pennywise coded and out of place for me. I actually thought Ohm’s entire backstory, and his dumb book, was rather silly haha
Going to see Hokum tonight. Pretty excited. Been dipping my toes into a little more horror, and I think this will be a good one. Expecting to be very scared.
ok now I sound like Aaron but Dolls is good good. Also a movie I saw when I was in like fourth grade lol. Holds up and really is so good, might actually be my favorite Stuart Gordon. You know what? Disregard everything - go with Dolls!
Really dug Hokum, definitely my favorite from that director. He just knows how to create a perfect spooky atmosphere. the eyes of the television character makes me feel so uneasy haha only complaints I have right now is that it’s just too dark to see what’s going on sometimes and I wanted the witch to be creepy looking but yeah, I’ll watch anything McCarthy does now
Targets was pretty disturbing and prescient for its time. You could show that movie to most folks nowadays and it rings even more true. Crazy that it exists tbh
