they cloned jessica chastain just for the role? i didn't realize we had cloning technology so advanced already
Last time I'll be annoying about this, but I completed my Potrykus feature journey by watching Ape on Tubi and it was great. Total microbudget surreal dark comedy about a failed slacker comedian. Very fun, solid vibes, maybe my favorite after Alchemist Cookbook. Cool to see an independent director start in one genre and slowly roll it into another.
Lee Cronin's The Mummy Review: A Cruel and Derivative Creature Feature “A taste for black vomit, loose embalming fluid, and various other such viscous liquids is the closest thing the “Evil Dead Rise” director has to a visual signature of his own.” Is that so bad? (This sounds pretty miserable imo.)
Metal Detector Maniac! Man, y’all really need to watch all the Motern movies when you need some low budget non-horror. I can’t keep saying it. (I’d start with Riverbeast and Evil Puddle, the two funniest ones imo.)
The runtime is turning me off a bit for going to the mummy tonight , but other than that it sounds like my cup of tea
Mummy was mean and gnarly and full of split diopter shots. Definitely too long and I don’t think Cronin knew what he wanted to settle on here with plot and tone. All in all though I liked it
more horror-adjacent, Mother Mary (not to be confused with Project Hail Mary, which is also in theaters; be careful when ordering tix at the box office) is kinda like Black Swan for the pop girlies. a drama/thriller with a bit of body horror and a lot of queer subtext. the costume design is pivotal to the plot and it is gorgeous. the visuals are stunning and the score is haunting, unsettling, and beautiful all at the same time. since i'm already a fan of FKA Twigs i really enjoyed the soundtrack. Anne and Michaela give wonderful performances. Twigs herself is only in a couple of scenes, and Hunter (my queeeeeennnnnn) has a small role, both nailing the little parts they had. i personally love this but i fear it's gonna be another divisive one like The Bride! or Forbidden Fruits: it's not gonna work for everyone, for those it does they'll love it and for those it doesn't they'll hate it. we're getting a lot of those so far this year.
