i don't pay attention to what the release dates are haha i think faces of death and hokum are soon. i feel like i'm forgetting a few tho
Echoing interest for Lee Cronin's Mummy. Stoked on the good reception to Faces of Death. May try and get to this later this week. Has anyone seen the og? Is it truly made up partially of real stuff? I've always stayed away for that reason but honestly have not done a ton of research.
I still need to see Forbidden Fruits. And tbh my interest in Faces of Death and The Mummy is relatively low. Will probably go see them anyway if nothing else catches my eye. Definitely more interested in Hokum but that's technically in May.
The Mummy premise is just so incredibly stupid to me haha, but it looks like a potentially fun/stupid gore/jump scare fest.
My friends and I do "Mystery Movie Nights" where every couple weeks one of us gets to choose a movie (any genre) and we all watch it together. A couple days ago, it was my turn to pick one, and I had every intention of showing Demons. But at the very last minute, I pivoted and picked Braindead/Dead Alive, and it killed! Even though everyone was extremely grossed out, half the friend group said it was their favorite Mystery Movie yet, which made me happy. I knew it could go either way... haha. Demons is great for a campy 80s jam that has stuff that's so bad it's funny, but Braindead is legitimately funny and gnarly.
Evil Dead Rise was fun but a little too gross for me so I'm a little worried The Mummy will also be too much. Faces of Death-- both the original and the remake--sound kinda mean spirited
I've never seen it because in the schoolyard it was always described as a literal snuff film, so hearing it described as a little mean spirited was funny.
I'm sure it's not as bad as I had heard back then, and I know most of it is fake, but I think it has some actual deaths and animal cruelty. Apparently a high school math teacher showed it to his students in the '80s.
Saw it once 25 years ago and it does have some animal cruelty stuff and real life deaths in it (basically rotten.com before rotten.com - nothing I'd suggest watching) but it's probably pretty tame compared to the videos we've all seen on social media in the last few years.
I caught glimpses of it at the Museum of Death in NOLA but didn’t care to watch more than a minute or two of. It’s not even a movie whose premise ever really scared or intrigued me; everything I’ve ever heard about it just makes it sound uninteresting. Maybe if I heard about it when I was 14 it would’ve been different and I would’ve sought it out. I have watched the (fake) monkey brain scene a few times in my life though for some reason. I’m definitely interested in the new one especially after Erhlich’s review but obviously that’s going to be a very different movie.
I think that visit to the Museum of Death was when I started to make horror much less a part of my identity than it had been for a while lol. Everything about it rubbed me the wrong way including the people working there proudly showing off the car crash photos they had for sale. Seeing shrunken heads irl was a childhood dream come true tho.
