I just want more horror TV in general, I'm kinda ambivalent towards whether they're connected to a preexisting franchise or ip. Even my fav Flanagan projects are usually based on something
Finally watching 2001 Maniacs, which I remember checking out over and over and the video rental place growing up. I knew it wouldn't be good (I was right lol) but figured I owed it a watch considering Two Thousand Maniacs! is one of my favorites. Speaking of, I've been meaning to ask for a while now -- Letterboxd Top Four-style -- what movies comprise everybody's horror DNA in here? The ones that are like...watch these, and you'll understand me better as a person. I think mine would be: - I Saw the TV Glow - Skinamarink - Two Thousand Maniacs! - Dawn of the Dead (1978) Donnie Darko would actually be #1 with a bullet, but I don't consider it a horror film.
horror DNA is a fun question. I'd say: Shaun of the Dead (introduced me to horror through comedy, perfect gateway film) Signs (first horror I really fell in love with) Scream (first time I realised you could do a movie about movies and it still be spooky) The Lost Boys (self-explanatory)
Hmmmm off the top of my head and likely to forget something I’d say another time: Idle Hands Cure Alien Videodrome
Fuck, I can't believe I didn't include Jacob's Ladder or The Brood...maybe we should make it 5-10 films that shaped your horror DNA. Lmao
hmmm... i can say something deep like I Saw the TV Glow: obvious trans allegory The Substance: body horror as trans allegory but then if i had to choose four the other two would be Doctor Sleep: my fav Flanagan film, and my fav King adaptation Happy Death Day: my fav horror comedy, and my fav time loop film which feels a bit more superficial. but i guess just it's like, hey, these are my tastes, from very serious to very silly. and like, i can handle some body horror but nothing too extreme or torture-y
Yeah, I tried to do a new favorite (TV Glow), an old favorite (Two Thousand Maniacs!), my actual favorite horror film (Dawn of the Dead), and then something weird/unique (Skinamarink). Feels weird to not have a Cronenberg in there as my favorite director, but fuck it, gotta stay true to myself. Going to give myself Jacob's Ladder as a paychological-comspiracy pick and round it out as a top five, though.
Anyone interested in reading a horror screenplay? Looking to get some feedback, feeling kind of stuck with it. it’s called NEPO BABY: In order to launch her own career, a tormented writer needs to track down her deadbeat father, a reclusive A-list actor. But she doesn’t want to find him, she wants to kill him.
Scream (my mom let me watch this when I was like 8 or 9 years old and I loved it, my intro to horror. Big fan of meta/comedy in horror and slasher is one of my favorite subgenres) The Thing (for how much I love body horror and creature stuff) The Fog (perfect cozy atmosphere, I wanna live in this movie) im having a hard time deciding between Midsommar or something like Night of the Creeps lol. Why can’t you let me have 5!?
I’m less worried about the writing right now, need some takes from horror fans. I can upload it tonight and send to anyone who wants to give it a look.
i made this list of black actresses back in 2023; since it's black history month i thought i'd bring it back and add to it Georgina Campbell in Barbarian (at the time i somehow totally forgot to add) Naomi Ackie in Blink Twice basically everyone in Sinners There have definitely been others and I just didn't go see them. The Front Room, The Woman in the Yard, Never Let Go
