Margot Kidder is just so, so funny and perfect for the role in Black Christmas. Rest in Power to a real one
Silent Night, Deadly Night is goated. Great kills, unsettling acting and some pretty funny dialogue. Can’t wait to watch the remake when it comes out on digital.
Happy Holidays everyone!! For those interested, let's plan on having lists of up to 15 favorite horror films (ranked 1-15) from 2025 posted in here by New Year's Day. If we want to discuss how they're tabulated until then, we definitely can. Then, sometime between New Year's Day and the 2nd, I'll post the results for the Horror Thread's Annual Top 10(ish) Horror Films of the Year :) I know I would still like to squeeze in Queens of the Dead, Man Finds Tape, It Ends, and Horror in the High Desert 4 before the deadline... then, to a lesser extent, if I have time (I won't lol), The Toxic Avenger and The Long Walk, maybe.
Honorable mention to the ones I saw at festivals, New Group, the Holy Boy, Anything That Moves, and Marama, all pretty good and I'd probably rank in that order. Hope they get actual releases soon. I am including It Ends which is out on the LetterBoxd video thing at least. 15. Clown in a Cornfield 14. VHS Halloween 13. Match 12. It Ends 11. Death of A Unicorn 10. Opus 9. Black Phone 2 8. Influencers 7. The Ugly Stepsister 6. Together 5. Final Destination: Bloodlines 4. Companion 3. Sinners 2. Bring Her Back 1. Weapons
I've been slacking on Frankenstein. Other than that I think the list I made a few months ago still stands. SNDN was bonkers fun but I don't think it broke into the top fifteen
1. Bring her Back 2. Sinners 3. The Long Walk 4. Frankenstein 5. Keeper 6. The Monkey 7. Final Destination Bloodlines 8. Companion 9. 28 Years Later 10. Together 11. Weapons 12. Black Phone 2 13. VHS Halloween 14. I Know What You Did Last Summer 15. Death of a Unicorn real stretch to get to 15 lmao
1. Sinners 2. The Long Walk 3. Weapons 4. Final Destination Bloodlines 5. Strange Harvest 6. Bring Her Back 7. Companion 8. Bone Lake 9. Together 10. Heart Eyes 11. I know What You Did Last Summer 12. 28 Years Later 13. Influencers 14. Good Boy 15. Dangerous Animals Pretty good year for horror despite some disappointments for me (The Monkey, Death of a Unicorn, Shelby Oaks).
I.should reiterate that you can list up to 15 films - don't feel like you have to stretch if you've only got 10 worth listing
I think I only saw 14 this year. Didn't love the bottom 3 but all are worth watching. 1. Weapons 2. 28 Years Later 3. Sinners 4. Final Destination Bloodlines 5. Clown in a Cornfield 6. Strange Harvest 7. I Know What You Did Last Summer 8. Companion 9. VHS Halloween 10. Wolf Man 11. Toxic Avenger 12. Good Boy 13. The Woman in the Yard 14. The Monkey
1. Weapons 2. Sinners 3. Bring Her Back 4. Companion 5. Ugly Stepsister 6. Strange Harvest 7. Clown in a Cornfield 8. It Ends 9. 28 Years Later 10. Good Boy
Always hard to figure out with these things. I would probably go off Letterboxd too -- I think Bugonia is definitely more horror-codes than Badlands -- but I have the same question about something every year. Last year it was Stranger Darling and Beau is Afraid, which I would consider a thriller and a comedy (respectively), this year it's Companion, which feels horror-adjacent but also more of a dark comedy-sci-fi-thriller? Idk. Do what feels right
