Keeper is good. The only one I've seen that i really liked of his since Blackcoat's Daughter (tho that might still be my fav, mayhaps). No disappointing twist (Longlegs) or jarring tonal shifts (Monkey). So effectively off-putting.Tatiana fucking rocks
I feel like what I liked about The Monkey is that it was way more tonally consistent than Longlegs, lol. It knew it was a horror-comedy and embraced it. With Gourley and Rust's recent episode on Longlegs was great and really mirrored my mixed feelings on that film.
Shelby Oaks would have been better focusing on the ambiguous scares of the found footage stuff. Once the movie got past the found footage, it fell off a cliff for me.
Yeah, I try to watch as much new horror as I can throughout the year but everything I've read -- especially in here -- has lowered any interest I had immensely
It’s a lot easier to hype up a horror movie than it is to make a good one I guess. I’m working on three horror scripts rn and they’re driving me insane. Not surprised most stuff ends up ok and the true bangers are few and far between.
What I have read, and someone who's seen it can correct me, is that it is this plus maybe Rosemary's Baby and another classic or two hodgepodged together into a narrative/found-footage hybrid that is inconsistent in execution. Seems like a handful of solid homages that don't quite add up
