Crumb Catcher is...really technically well-done. I just don't know if enough happens to justify it being over 90 minutes. It definitely feels like a Twilight Zone episode (mixed with I Think You Should Leave) that could have been trimmed down to like, an hour. But the lead antagonist's performance is wildly good. Still have about 25 minutes to go. Going to try to get to Him today.
I went to Amoeba and got Excision, Antiviral, and Gretel and Hansel, none of which I'd seen. Some body horror... I was kinda in a rush and Internet was bad so I didn't ask beforehand: are any of these, like, Terrifier bad?
Def not Gretel and Hansel or Antiviral. Antiviral is gross, but more like needles and Cronenberg medical-horror gross. Have not seen (or heard of) Excision, I don't think.
The nosedive in the last 20 minutes of Him is fucking craaaaazy lol the first three-quarters were like, unsubtle but stylish as hell and a lot of fun to watch. It legitimately feels like they cut several key scenes before the "twist" because it comes almost completely out of nowhere. Wild stuff. Had a blast watching it, glad my friends got to work on it (in minor capacities), just wish the ending wasn't such a fumble between the writer and the producers.
Chain Reactions, the TCM documentary, is now available to rent/buy. I just purchased, will report back.
We watched The Witch. Unfortunately, she was not impressed with it. But thats ok. Maybe next week, we watch Saw.
Y'all know my tastes probably better than anyone I can think of. Does anyone have specific horror book recommendations for me (old or new), must-reads, or know of a reliable list of the best of all-time? Hard to get to as many movies as I used to, but considering how much house work I do after work every day, I figure it's a good chance to blow through some audiobooks. Would love to blow through the classics or anything folks in here think I would really love.
I won’t pretend to know your taste well enough to be able to recommend books specifically for you (although I do bet you’d have a ton of fun with Max Booth III’s books/stories), but I’d love to throw together a list of some of my favorite horror books for you a little later!
I'm on a huge Stephen King kick right now so you can't really go wrong there, and there are multiple good starting points. Otherwise, see below for some horror books I have read recently over the past few years and have enjoyed to varying levels! Harvest Home by Tom Tryon The Troop by Nick Cutter My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix A God in the Shed by JF Dubeau The Hunger by Alma Katsu The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris The Indian Lake Trilogy by Stephen Graham Jones Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
The Hunger is next month's pick for our local horror book club, so I might start there :) I love King's short stories. Not sure if I've read an actual novel of his, though. Also loved On Writing.
aw dang, Excision is the one I'm most worried about. the plot souuuunds cool but it has the potential to get really out of hand, i can only take so much
I would absolutely defer to @Rowan5215 for all things King but I have read a decent amount of his work. Salem's Lot would be a strong rec from me personally. I also just read the short story Jerusalem's Lot which acts as a prequel of sorts and it legit terrified me
I haven’t read many classics yet so I can’t help you there. As for newer, maybe How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix or When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy edit: True Crime by Samantha Kolesnik too. Short little novella you can get through in a few hours
