Happy Halloween. Definitely feel like I have a cold or worse but I’m gonna chug a Yerba tonight and some DayQuil for the kiddos before we head out.

  2. wow - the ending reveal maybe rivals Sleepaway Camp as one of the most insane I've ever seen, lol. Please, please watch this movie.

Poughkeepsie Tapes is just so mean-spirited.

I also loved 28 Years Later and just downloaded for a rewatch. I think it's only grown on me since my theater experience. The more I talk about it with other people, the more I want to rewatch, and that's typically a very good sign.

Are any actual rats harmed in it?

    Happy Halloween, y'all!!!

  6. No live rats are harmed on-screen as far as I can tell. W/r/t off-screen, I'm reading conflicting reports - one source says the director made sure no rats were harmed during filming, other sites say it was cruel to drop them on the actors, so I hoenstly couldn't tell you :/ I'm sorry!

    LIVER ALONE!

I was fairly high for my millionth rewatch last night and I somehow put myself in a place of viewing it as if it was my first time. Quite the feat since I’ve been watching the movie at least annually for the last 20 years of my life.

When Laurie goes to the neighboring house screaming for help and then trying to wake Tommy up I was genuinely so stressed for her. It also made me realize that all the beats in that movie work in such a way that it’s damn near perfect. Such a thrill ride.

There's an evil Grinch movie on Amazon Prime and an evil Popeye movie. I know what I'm doing today.

  11. The evil Grinch movie has David Howard Thornton as the Grinch, lol

Looking for Scary movie tonight, we came upon 'The Witch'.

We didnt want slasher/Halloween/Friday the 13th kind of movies, and daughter refuses to watch Cujo, and we've seen a bunch recently.

Thoughts on our choice? Or should we choose something else?

Ha, amazing. I also found a terrible movie called Crackcoon.

  14. The Witch is excellent - just know it's very slow and atmospheric and historical. If you have an idea of what kind of movie you are looking for (folk horror, for example), I'm sure folks in here could recommend some more to you.

I immediately think of Gretel & Hansel when I want folk horror--so good!

  16. Underrated for sure! I think Blair Witch Project, Hereditary, and even The Ritual could all go hard on Halloween depending on the vibe.

The Witch is one of my favorite movies ever, but plenty of people find it boring. If you want less of a slow burn, you could do something like Hereditary!

  19. To be fair, I would think found footage for BWP and like, supernatural/possession horror for Hereditary even though I'm fairly sure both would count as folk horror as well!

SHe saw blair witch, and we watched hereditary already.

She saw the Ring, Sixth Sense, Get Out, and wants a slow burning type movie - one that makes you think a little as well...

Dont need to see the blood and guts if its just inferred.

Some of my favorite folk horror: The Witch, Eyes of Fire, Robin Redbreast. I also recently really liked The Blood on Satan’s Claw but I can’t recommend it because there’s an upsetting scene involving a teen.

  25. Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Hot Fuzz, Candyman, Tigers Are Not Afraid...all great non-traditional folk horror (or folk horror-adjacent, in the case of Hot Fuzz).
