Haven’t seen a ton of movies from this year but… 1. The Ugly Stepsister 2. Sinners 3. 28 Years Later I think Sinners is better than The Ugly Stepsister, but how much I loved the latter was a complete surprise and I haven’t really stopped thinking about it since. Going to watch Bloodlines this weekend, hopefully. Edit: oh wait, was Nosferatu this year? If so, that is number one!
Horror on Max in July 7/1 Annabelle Get Out Insidious The Amityville Horror (1979) The Amityville Horror (2005) The Last House On The Left (doesn't say of it's the original or the remake) 7/4 Sinners 7/11 Opus 7/25 Death Of A Unicorn
Hey, new thread. I got Shudder and am on week two of summer vacation. Hopefully I can catch up on horror. My 2025 list so far: Sinners 28 Years Later Bring Her Back Companion I’m looking forward to Meghan 2.0 and Together.
Just finished Humane, directed by Caitlin Cronenberg. Unique premise and fun watch. Good twist ending too.
I think I’m mad at the kid being so dumb and the zombies not being a focus / only mattering when the story wanted them to. It had beautiful shots and a message on death but the actual action felt like non sequiturs at times.
in the past six months, i've seen in theaters: the horror movies, i'd rank: 1. Bring Her Back 2. Sinners 3. Companion 4. Final Destination Bloodlines 5. Presence and then a five-way tie bc they're all pretty close (or i'm just lazy) Death of a Unicorn Until Dawn Opus The Monkey Ash sidenote: The Life of Chuck, a non-horror movie from a prominent horror director, is my favorite movie of the year so far
It’s good to see The Life of Chuck praise. I wanted to read the book first cause I love Stephen King, but I might just go tomorrow haha
This post made me watch The Ugly Stepsister. Thanks! It’s Cinderella with a twist and some body horror. Gross and good costumes and makeup.
Clown in a Cornfield was a lot of fun! Need to re-watch the last 15 minutes though, I was nodding off.
28 Years Later was such a freaked out blast. Fully all in on whatever these next few movies hold. Wow i wanna see it again
Important to note that I have NOT seen Bring Her Back yet, but aside from that, this would be my mid-year Top 10: 1. Companion 2. 28 Years Later 3. Sinners 4. Heart Eyes 5. The Monkey 6. The Ugly Stepsister 7. Until Dawn 8. Final Destination Bloodlines 9. Wolf Man 10. Locked
rewatched Late Night with the Devil, starts off a little slow but has some really cool stuff going on, especially the possession scene and the entirety of the third act. where the film kinda loses me is that it's initially framed as like unaired found footage when the rest of the film isn't really shot that way. the cinematography is too nice to be from a late night talk show crew haha. if it wasn't gonna commit to that structure, it shouldn't have set it up that way in the first place. it's a minor gripe in comparison to what the film excels at. Dastmalchian finally gets a leading role to shine in.
I LOVE Late Night With The Devil. That's a valid take, I think I always just imagined it as everyone's on their game because the show's on the chopping block and also that it's more Dick Cavett than Johnny Carson. Not even sure how much sense that makes given both of those shows stopped airing before I was born, but whatever
Conflicting thoughts about M3gan 2.0 It's not the sequel I was hoping for, but it was still fun and i like the characters. Honestly felt like a comic book movie more than anything to me lol
I didn't "love" it but can't say I had a better time at 10 other horror movies so far this year. Was just surprised no one mentioned it.
No cuz liek that's exactly what I personally want from it haha. I love that, for example, HDD2U kinda deviated from the genre of the original. Even The Babysitter 2 I think leans into the zaniness a bit more. So, from what you said, it sounds like I'm gonna have a really good time with it
