So torn on black phone 2. Really liked a lot of it but the execution was lacking and i really didn’t care for so many of the characters. Some great stuff from Ethan Hawke though, just wish there was more of that
The expedition dump scene between Jeremy Davies and the kids in the woods was painful. Love Davies, but he is not cut out for that kind of scene.
I’m watching Halloween 4 for the first time. It’s filmed here in SLC Utah. Fun fact: Vincent Drug (the pharmacy/halloween store) is also the same store the kids buy their baseballs in The Sandlot.
almost as rough as the horse girl telling the couple "y'all ain't real Christians if you stay in your cabin while we go hunt an invisible murderous ghost" lmao. also Gwen quoting scripture at the Grabber was reeeeally bad, not even McGraw could sell that
Black Phone 2 had its pros and cons for sure but I enjoyed it for the most part. McGraw was awesome and Ethan Hawke was fantastic as well.
I’m gonna finish The Cremator tonight (absolutely amazing movie) but I’m not sure what movie number two will be. Probably something extremely dumb.
Regarding Black Phone 2 - Were there supposed to be small nods to The Shining in this? I know that Joe Hill wrote the original short story but the car crash that they pass on the way to the camp seemed similar to the wreck that Halloran drives past that was the dig at King? Maybe I'm reading more into it and it was just supposed to show how bad the storm was. Also there seemed to be a scene where blood runs over in a way that evoked Shining vibes to me.
Been going through Benson and Moorhead’s filmography this week because I’ve been wanting to for a long time. So far I’ve watched Resolution, Spring, The Endless, and Synchronic. Looking forward to Something in the Dirt and I think I’ll also watch Descendent even though they only produced that one. I am SO glad I read in here at some point that I should watch Resolution first because when those reveals and connections started dropping in The Endless I had the biggest grin on my face and was doing the Leo Dicaprio pointing meme for sure. That was a hell of a trip and I loved it. I was surprised by Spring and thought the ending was really lovely. Didn’t expect that kind of film. Last thirty minutes or so felt like I was watching a Lovecraftian version of Before Sunrise.
Lol, my first exposure to SOV was purchasing Camp Motion Pictures' big box VHS of this, which came with a DVD set including this, Cannibal Campout, Video Violence 1&2, and Captives. I think it was like $40? It was a great deal.
