Sorry horror thread but I can't sleep and it's late so u get all my late night thoughts

But there are a few horror things that hold a special place in my heart. My dad is a huge horror fan and my parents never really had limits on what I could watch as a kid so I watched it all. A few things scared me so much as a kid tho. And for the longest time I didn't even remember what they were, I just remembered some scenes and how they made me so uncomfortable.

One was Stir Of Echos. That completely freaked me out as a kid. Mainly the scene where it showed how she died and her fingernails coming off and stuff.

The second was Creepshow "Something to Tide You Over" I still think about it all the time. Idk why that stuck with me but it always did. I actually had no idea until I googled it just now to remind me the name of the segment that Ted danson was in it! For whatever reason it struck a cord with me as a kid and it was def the heart of some of my nightmares

there are some extremely unpleasant aspects to it (Xander's like, whole character lmao) but there are some episodes that are essential watching this time of year imo. Killed by Death, Gingerbread, Fear Itself and Hush just hit the Halloween spot so well

I liked Together! Was iffy on it in the first half but was quite pleased by the end. Honestly expected it to go a bit harder with the body horror but the stuff they did lean into rocked

I watched Malum on Shudder recently. Few minutes in I started thinking, "This sounds a lot like that other rookie cop/haunted police station movie, Last Shift, from years back." Turns out the director of Last Shift remade that movie with a bigger budget, resulting in Malum. I don't think I've seen that done before, and I couldn't help but compare the original with the remake as I watched the latter.

There are parts of the original I like because of its low-budget nature. With Malum, there was a lot going on that just didn't land with me. The over-developed storyline was - well, overbearing, along with the shoe-horned in audio commentary. Maybe I've just grown too used to the original and come to appreciate it for its limitations. That said, it was cool to see the practical effects and costumes in Malum especially when it goes off the rails in the third act.

Other Shudder watches that I enjoyed a lot more: Clown in a Cornfield, Dangerous Animals and Candy Land.

Xander makes me laugh at times but yeah, definitely the most problematic character, lol. The Pack, in which he tries to, um, assault Buffy almost prematurely ended my rewatch.

I forgot how strong and intense the show can be, though. I found the season two opener with a traumatized Buffy really effective, and her violently smashing the bones at the end…:verysad:

Beauty and the Beast was great. Now I’m watching a movie by the same director called The Cremator and it’s fantastic so far. Like possibly some all timer stuff lol.

one thing you can never fault that show for is SMG's performance, she's unreal from the first episode to the last. that one scene in the s1 finale never fails to make me sob (Giles I'm sixteen, I don't wanna die)

fantastic actress, I hope she keeps showing up in horror with this career resurgence she's having!

Y’all were not kidding about that Hell House documentary. One of the most unintentionally funny and fucked up Horror Comedies I’ve ever seen. Smoked a joint before watching it and I was dying the entire time lol

I too was always creeped out by Stir of Echos and that fingernail part. It used to get played on TV all the time when I was a teenager and I’d always watch it.

The Creepshows that stand out to me still that I never forgot were Thanks for the Ride Lady one and the one where the teens are swimming in the lake and there’s a blob like creature in it

iirc, Ben Willis kills David Egan because he killed his gf, Willis’ daughter, in a drunk driving accident the year before or something like that. Then he got his ass ran over coming home from murdering him lol
