I am watching Milwaukee Murders, a grimy SOV slasher where the antagonist, a mulleted man named Huey, gets a spell put on him to kill his female friends. There has been a 10 minute montage recorded at a real Milwaukee county fair, followed by a death scene where I quite literally could not make out a single thing happening. "I guess I'm just not used to being chased around a mall in the middle of the night by killer robots"
Started Offerings for the movie that rips off another successful movie prompt. The music at the beginning even rips off Halloween’s lol
Good Boy was very good for a DIY film made on a shoestring budget. The effects were actually pretty great and it’s a very likable movie overall. Watching The Descent and Black Phone today as comfort rewatches. Spooky season is in full effect.
Watched all four I Know What You Did Last Summer movies earlier this week. That was something. I’ve never actually watched them before so I did enjoy the 90s teen slasher vibes of the first two. That’s a cozy place to live generally, but also Kevin Williamson is pretty 50/50 for me so a lot of his dialogue tends to take me out of whatever I’m watching. Chuckled and rolled my eyes pretty hard at “Dawson’s Beach.” I also found the killer’s motivation a little…muddled? Confusing? So he killed his dead daughter’s ex-boyfriend and then got hit by a car while standing in the road? Some of the audio in that first film was a little tough to discern so I was struggling to understand why exactly he killed his dead daughter’s ex? And what exactly did that have to do with the teens we were following, if anything? That direct to video third film was full of an awful lot of choices wow. Whoever their location scout was at least got them some beautiful locales, but said locale had absolutely nothing to do with a fishing town and a killer in a slicker. I also had no clue they’d chosen to turn the killer into a supernatural being so when that very sudden reveal came in the third act I let out a literal guffaw and sat there kind of speechless through the rest of it. The hook is his weapon, but also it’s the only thing that hurts him? Huh? And then they shove him into a thresher to kill him anyway? The legacy sequel was about what I expected it to be. I’ll give them credit though for pulling the trigger and doing the thing people have been speculating about with the Scream series for years. Silly movie, but I’ll admit I was all in on the Brandy teaser.
for those who've seen Bring Her back, how much more traumatic does it get re: body horror? we finally started watching tonight, and while i'm hopeful there's a decent payoff at the end, the violence/body horror got to be a bit too much for me and my partner. we ended up turning it off for the night around the countertop and arm eating scene about 70 minutes in. we plan on finishing it tomorrow. i want to believe there's an interesting narrative here re: familial trauma/the abuses of the foster care system, but the violence is excessive in a way i wasn't expecting
that's really good to know. i personally can handle most violence, but that scene in particular was kind of our breaking point. as long as it doesn't get more violent than that (or at least violent without a reason other than excessive violence), i think we'll be good
Finished Milwaukee Murders. Fun stuff. Rewatching Cemetery of Terror. Fun one, major Halloween vibes for the season
