So far we are up to sixteen responses. Not sure how many we want to run with. Do we think today is enough?
Wrong Turn Scream Nightmare on Elm Street Predator The Ring The Exorcist Leprechaun Friday the 13th The Conjuring Hannibal Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Hills Have Eyes Ringu Blair Witch Candy Man I Know What You Did Last Summer Alien Urban legend Ju-On nsidious Paranormal Activity Saw Wishmaster Universal Dracula Creepshow This is what I ended up with. I guess my hot take is the Conjuring franchise over the Evil Dead franchise.
All of these were pretty easy except for Romero’s Living Dead vs Conjuring. But where is the Halloween franchise? Gotta be in R2, right? Also Friday the 13th should win the whole thing tbh
What I love about horror fandom is that I can deeply respect this opinion but also say fuck this Scream takes it.
If we were talking individual films then I’d agree, but when it comes to a franchise I gotta go with F13 solely for the first 4 films and part 6.
My picks: Wrong Turn vs. Critters - Love me some 80s crites Scream vs. Child's Play - Child's Play would deserve the win in almost every other matchup, it's insanely consistent with only one stinker (Seed) for me. But Scream is one of the greatest movies of all time, and the formula for the sequels is always exciting Nightmare on Elm Street vs. From Dusk Till Dawn - The one two punch of the OG Nightmare and Freddy's Revenge alone beats out most anything Piranha vs. Predator - Fun! Tremors vs. The Ring - Fun! Psycho vs. The Exorcist - I haven't seen all The Exorcist movies, but 1 and 3 are enough to earn my vote! Leprechaun vs. Puppet Master - Haven't seen all of either franchise but I'm down for the Lep, 3 is classic DTV schlock Friday the 13th vs. Rec - My vote for the winner of the whole bracket, it just has everything. Endless rewatchability George Romero's Dead vs. The Conjuring - They both have great movies and both have bad movies, but I think the Dead franchise has more bad movies! Hannibal vs. Final Destination - Fun! Texas Chainsaw Massacre vs. Universal Mummy - Even though Friday is my personal fave, TCM is in my opinion the most consistent franchise out there. No movie is less than a 7/10 to me The Hills Have Eyes vs. The Howling - Haven't seen all The Howling movies, but I like the THHE makes me think strongly of the 70s AND the 2000s V/H/S vs. Ringu - Fun! Blair Witch vs. jaws - In both cases, I think everything after the originals suck, but I prefer The Blair Witch Project to Jaws! Candy Man vs. Universal Frankenstein - Not much of a Universal guy! Hammer Dracula vs. I Know What You Did Last Summer - ^ Ditto for Hammer! Hammer Frankenstein vs. Alien - I don't actually like the Alien franchise much, but of these two I prefer it :/ Urban legend vs. Evil Dead - The Evil Dead > Urban Legend > Urban Legend 2 > the rest = Urban Legend win Phantasm vs. Ju-On - Fun! Return of the Living Dead vs. Insidious - Fun! Paranormal Activity vs. Hatchet - PA was like my generation's Friday the 13th. I'm not even into ghost movies all that much but I gotta represent Saw vs. Silent Night, Deadly Night - Actually just finished the Saw franchise for the first time tonight! The original is incredible, and then returns gradually diminish from there for me. SNDN has too 10/10s right off the jump Universal Wolfman vs. Wishmaster - In this case I'll go Universal cuz Wishmaster sucks! Resident Evil vs. Universal Dracula - ^ Ditto! Hostel vs. Creepshow - Both good but Creepshow 2 pushes it over the edge for me
Got a busy weekend, so I'm gonna hold until Monday. Some folks are gonna be bummed out by these results lol. Some 50/50 races so far.
Yea honestly there are only 1 or 2 pairings that I considered to be no-contest, but I may be surprised.
