  1. Cabin in the Woods, The Final Girls, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Housebound, Trick 'r Treat, Shaun of the Dead, Drag Me To Hell, and You're Next are all good to great modern horror movies with a lot of humor/camp imo. I've also heard Slither is good, but have yet to watch it, regretfully.

Oh yeah obviously all of them, I just meant in the last year or so. Forgot about Final Girls, loved that

Fright Night, although i wasn't super into it personally. Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is real funny if you like parody/satire of slashers. Final Girls was real solid. Trick r Treat is fantastic.

  5. Not officially, but it's out there. The official release is Aug 25th for DirectTV and Sept 30th for a theatrical run.

I know all of them haha but thank you. Behind the Mask is one of my favorite horror films in general. I'm just a little bummed that most of them are niche marketed flicks, I'd like to see a big budget camp film instead of studios throwing all of their money into ghost stories. Suppose that's the trend after Paranormal Activity, though

Maybe big budget camp is an oxymoron but you get the idea. Am I wrong in assuming that most of those movies are humorless?

well, there's a certain charm that's similar to the charm of camp that i get from teen horror flicks like House of Wax, but idk if that's what you're looking for.

  9. Ah ya, there hasn't really been anything in that humorous vain this year that I've seen. Ya I loved Final Girls. Krampus from last year was decent. The Visit and Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse were ok.

    are we having fun yet?

what's the consensus on Hush? i thought it was pretty well done, definitely didn't hate it

Scouts Guide is maybe the worst movie I've ever sat through. It had some cool gore effect but otherwise I hated it.

  12. I had a blast seeing Krampus and The Visit in theaters, but yeah, Scout's Guide was really really bad.

Trick r' Treat is one of my favorites though. I just rented Slither again the other night after it came up in this thread and it's one of the best modern campy horror/B-movies I've seen, haha. Don't forget about Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

Seeing it tonight I think, live right next to a practically deserted theater that never has more than, like, fifteen people per screen so we usually smuggle in some wine and make a night of it haha

I want to see lights out but the stupid theater here rarely ever shows horror movies so I'd have to go to another town and I don't have my car grr.

Is Lights Out supposed to be good, or is it just another dime-a-dozen horror movie?

I have no idea but I'm fine with either!

Everyone here seems to be looking forward to it. It's produced by James Wan, which should give you an idea of the quality at least.

Cool. I haven't seen a lot of James Wan's stuff but I've heard good things about him.

Reviews on RT are fairly positive, bloody disgusting had some nice words too if I recall. Imagine it will be heavily flawed and still a lot of fun which is all I can ask of Hollywood

Yeah, I just looked at RT and was surprised to see such positive reviews. I'm usually fairly skeptical of modern horror films, but there have been a few decent ones recently. May actually give this one a go.

  22. Kinda surprised that the movie is PG-13, too, but I suppose the idea behind it doesn't (and shouldn't) leave much room for gore

So Lights Out was pretty fun with your typical cliches, but yeah, ending was a groaner.

Also, why can't people STFU during movies, especially horror? Was hoping a morning audience wouldn't be the typical annoyance.

Watched Kill List for the first time last night. That ending was unbelievably unnerving.
