I was worried that I was overhyping Hereditary and was setting myself up to be underwhelmed. NOPE. Great, great slow burn and the sounds/score landed in all the right places. Need to see this again ASAP.

I agree that they don’t care about making/producing movies for a wide audience. I love them for it. When I see A24, I’m excited, but I also know what I’m in for. They still market to the wide audience, which raises my question. Are the masses eventually going to just see another A24 scariest movie and say no because they don’t buy into it anymore. Let’s face it, they need revenue to produce these movies we all love. I just wonder if they are eventually going to hurt themselves by over using this tactic.

I really hated everything about that season. The framing devices (plural??) totally took me out of it and I didn't like any of the characters. I rewatch the entire series usually before each season but I stopped that one about 3 episodes in because it just bored me to tears.

i doubt the masses don't even know what a24 is no matter how many movies they've seen from them

I haven’t paid attention to many marketing campaigns from them for previous horror, although I know It Comes At Night was botched. This seems pretty true to what the trailers wanted to reveal and closer to what they’re marketing it as in some ways than I expected. No it’s not a slasher running through the house or torture porn, but I think the tension mounts up for a considerable portion of it towards the end and gives more of a traditional horror movie feel to those people who are looking for that. It’s certainly more traditional than The Witch, which may be partly due to those test screening changes....

It also occurred to me that this is a lot like if Ordinary People was a horror movie and if no one in that film had any coping skills. Kind of makes me want to watch that again since it’s one of my all-time favorites.

Yea, this is entirely possible too. Probably more than likely.

I seem to recall Asylum having a crazy good stretch of episodes a little bit after the halfway point.

Not horror but I’m watching Robocop for the first time and that first kill was GOAT.

I came to say this. I don’t think it’s a top ten but I did really enjoy it, however I went in expecting to be on the edge of my seat the whole time because of the marketing and the ‘heart beating like two hours of exercise’ thing. Like I told @Dog with a Blog i liked it, but it didn’t live up to that hype that was set up going in. That being said I was able to set that aside and enjoy it when things did get tense and there were moments that did make my jaw drop a bit

Horror is still my fave genre but I have gotten the opposite of desensitized over the years! I used to not rly care when most characters died and I'd laugh if the kills were creative or entertaining but now I'm usually like :-/ cause I get sad!!

Espesh if there's a kid omfg I refuse to watch the beginning of It ever again.

I only get like that if a very likeable character is offed. But if it’s an animal! Ughhh

I get that way towards like every death now! I'm watching alien vs predator which I don't even care for and have seen multiple times but I'm sad about like every death espesh that nice guy with the accent! I've noticed myself getting sadder about horror deaths the last year or two. I've def noticed since I started working with kids too I absolutely cannot deal with kids dying in horror because the kids like call out to my heart and I get so upset and destroyed.

I get sad when animals die but it's also usually annoying cause I feel like it's often a cheap shock thing.

I also hate killer dogs in movies like if there is a dog who eats people I am noping outta there
