Really? I personally thought it was a good step up from the first.

it was certainly better than the first in that the tension it was trying to generate was more intriguing, but neither it nor its predecessor offered compelling justification for, really, anything. in fact, it was even more problematic than its predecessor; the whole film, sara is told by aaron very frankly - both literally and in behavior - what he was, and she sticks around, and then also she is surprised when he is indeed that? preferable to 1 in that we had a little more justification of, why are you still here? but also, like, why are you still here?

in terms of creative horror, the premise has potential. but the film ends up being both dull and unbelievable, as well as extremely by-the-books filmmaking for found footage.

i particularly like the premise of a serial killer having an existential midlife crisis, but it just really didn't go anywhere.

I guess I found the premise to be that Sara is looking for fame and material for her show, is also a huge weirdo herself, and believes she found a goldmine for all of the above. I think the bathroom scene was a very important scene for the movie given it lays out how she initially processed meeting him, the fact that she brought a weapon in case, and truly doubted that this guy was really a threat. I guess having already traveled to meet weirdos for so long already she was probably thinking with the big house and articulate manner of him that he was one of the more safer ones. Just some guy thinking he's scarier than he is. That's my take. I hated the intro scene, I don't know why it exists.

yeah I actually think they justified the premise as well as they could've, I understood the motivation for each person filming it. It likely wouldn't have happened irl, but I don't really need horror movies to be in the realm of believability. I mean, I watch shit with ghosts and demons and don't believe in either

my guess was the intro was to frame Aaron's current mental state, but it was clumsy, yes. in any case, if this were the first film of the series - where we didn't quite know for sure that this guy is a killer who has killed forty people - there's a lot more tension in viewing it.

So you're trying to tell me you don't believe there's a Darth Maul look-alike devil playing an organ in the further right now? You need Jesus, son.

suspension of disbelief is fair, but for a film like creep that's specifically rooted in realism and almost a human deconstruction of internet culture and serial killing, adhering to believability is important in my mind for exploiting that tension.

in that case, the ending was the least believable part of the whole film

I loved the idea of her going into hiding and him stalking her. Kind of as if he had unfinished business with the only one that got away. They don't allude to how long it may have been that he recovered and tracked her down.

However, him surviving the huge shovel hit and her surviving what seemed like a pretty severe attack from him did seem odd.

i intensely dislike when movies take a character and turn them into a superhuman like that...when they fucked up the film adaptation of Hannibal the same thing happened.

Lector was superhuman how? Cause he cut his hand off? Genuinely asking, I think context never transitions well when i'm typing.

yes, no reasonable person is surviving that and then disappearing into thin air then making it on a plane with no hand, even if we overlook the fact that in the book Lecter is about 3 faces (plastic surgery) ahead of the FBI's mugshot

to be fair, adapting Hannibal was going to be a shitty challenge no matter what. but i haaaaate that choice.

Hahaha I guess I never realized how easily he got away while missing a hand. Gotta rewatch that one.
