Watched Jigsaw and Happy Death Day. I enjoyed both. Finally, getting around to watching the horror films from last year I missed.

Okay, so I jumped the gun when I posted earlier.

Got home and watched the rest of Haunters. The stuff towards the end with McKamey Manor is just nuts. It goes FAR beyond scaring people and literally into straight torture. I can't even believe some of the stuff this dude was doing. He's INCREDIBLY lucky he hasn't killed anyone yet... it's only a matter of time. Depriving people of oxygen doesn't seem like the smartest idea. Truly fascinating stuff. Best documentary I've seen in a while. Highly recommended to everyone, doubly for horror fans.

Liked Creep 2 a lot. Wasn’t as effective as the first imo, but that was because we knew Aaron’s deal already. However the relationship between him, and Sara in 2 was really interesting.

I loved Absentia, Oculus, and especially Hush. Though I don’t know about his new film. The trailer made it seem kinda cheesy. Though he hasn’t let me down yet.

I keep saying it to everyone I show it to. If you cut off the unecessary intro of Creep 2, and never have seen Creep 1, that movie becomes a lot scarier/creepier. You’d watch the entire thing believing he’s just a creep, but at the end he’s a total psycho killer and you as well as Sara would realize that together.

Oh shit that's the BTBR guy!? His visual style is incredible, if this one has more of a discernible narrative it could be incredible

watched a found footage film called Unlisted Owner last night and it was 60 minutes of badly terribly worst acted group of 20 somethings yelling at the one guy for bringing his camera, and 20 minutes of cool stuff that would have been way cooler if i didn't have to sit through literally the worst acting i've ever seen, worse than that 1 star lifetime movie thing i watched last week hoooo boy.

i put on abbatoir because i hate myself
but lin shaye's so good in this

i certainly agree broadly with the stance, but i'm not sure i would classify shape of water as a horror film. get out, it follows, mother!, etc, are films rooted squarely in trying to scare the viewer. Shape is definitely influenced by monster movies but overall it was too tonally all over the place for me to see it in a horror lens - lots of fantasy, romance, political thriller, all coated in del Toro's recognizable dark gothic vibe but not as a thematic forefront.

I didn’t know there was a new purge coming. I like the premise, but hate that Frank Grillo isn’t coming back. Really enjoyed the last two.

The Nun - has anyone heard any recent news about that big lawsuit? Because they are still churning those flicks out at a high rate.

Didn’t know Mom and Dad was coming out tomorrow.

  21. Yeah, Haunters was wild. I love the more heartwarming stuff. Makes me wish I could find The American Scream on DVD.

  22. Never got around to gushing about the WNUF Halloween Special DVD, but albeit not being a particularly scary movie, I just love how unique and fun this it is and the DVD has two actual 1980s horror host specials from the director's hometown news station which is almost worth the price of admission alone. Plus, if you're a sucker for that kind of aesthetic like I am, the trailers for other Alternative Cinema/Camp Motion Pictures is A+ and convinced me to order a VHS/DVD combo set with five lo-fi 80s horror movies from their site.
