Damnit, but ok I'll take it.

I do enjoy these types of flicks. I watched one recently called Within that was fucking brutal. The violence wasn't very high but the plot itself was dark.

haunted house/house possession stories are not beyond saving but i think they're way easy to under-form. for me, at least, you need to develop really well-thought-out family dynamics and metaphorical demons associated with the people coming into the house, because if not, what you have boils down to arbitrary folks entering into a static environment which has no personal stake in harming them and in which they have no personal stake beyond "not dying," neither of which are fundamentally insightful or interesting conflicts beyond things happening to people that they don't want.

Thinking I'm going to just have a fun movie night and watch both Hatchet and The Shallows for the first time

I watched Videodrome for the first time last night. Still developing a taste for Cronenberg

Other than that I've seen Existenz (didn't like it much) and The Brood (did like it)

I just watched it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was a great time. Shivers is the only other one I've seen. That was fun too, and even though it was more comedic than The Fly, it was also more unsettling

Cronenberg is great with body horror (which i always wanna see more of) but particularly i think his treatment of sex is where things really get crazy. like to me, crash and history of violence are more fucking nuts than the fly or the brood. and videodrome is freaky not (just) cause of the body shit but because of the weird sado angle.

right, forgot that one. i actually wish it went further with the freaky surgical work/not gore but maybe that makes sense, not to completely pivot away from my previous point

I need to watch The Autopsy of Jane Doe and XX, trying to save money though. Both have a pretty steep rental price

Well written review, and I really need to see this.

Had no idea Ethan Embry was in this, but I've loved that dude since Can't Hardly Wait.

Re-watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose last night. Still holds up for me, but I'm partial to Tom Wilkinson.

I really want to see it, but with John Wick 2, Logan and King Kong all out around the same time I'm not kicking myself too hard. The problem is too many awesome movies coming out non stop lol.

    Well I haven't seen shit.

Kong doesn't interest me, no big monster movies do, actually. John Wick 2 is going to be awesome, but my time is limited to the point where going to a theater is difficult.

I loved it. It's just so well done. I was worried that absurd plots like these only work in skits because stretching it to a movie length format would ruin the magic or something. But that wasn't the case here.

I'm pretty confident it'll be in my top 5 this year too. My SO and I can't stop talking about it haha.

I really hope Get Out is good because it's good, not because it has some heavy-handed social motive. All I'm hearing is the social commentary and not so much about the quality of the writing/acting/plot itself.

That said, I know the plot and the ending, it seems absurd but I need to see it play out.

Going to the theater costs too much and takes up too much time in a day for someone with kids, I'm surprised I was able to go see Logan and Wick back to back pretty much lol. Kong does look cool to me, but not enough to rush out and see.

I have kids also, which is the main reason I don't go to the movies as much as I want to, but oh well. There was a time where I hadn't gone to a theater from Dodgeball to The Dark Knight Rises.

  25. Kong was really, really rough. Definitely recommend seeing Get Out (or John Wick 2) instead
