I feel like the likelihood of me watching this movie depends on if he dies or not. But he has to cause why would someone cast him to not kill him off.

It's called Most Likely to Die and I will leave it at that.

I actually enjoyed Blair Witch for what it was. There were flaws, but ultimately, you would've gotten those with any director. Wingard did a good job of respecting the original film, expanding upon its mythology as well as fans' favorite moments while holding onto its own vision. I was impressed with the way they incorporated today's technology without it feeling forced. Ultimately, I just thought it was much better and more fun than it probably had a right to be. Not to mention how tense/creepy it actually was - I was freaked out to walk home afterwards, haha.

  4. The last act of Blair Witch had me on edge and sweating the whole time, so it did its job imo. I really liked it.

This is one of my biggest issues with using things like Facebook/social media in film. Forcing it and dating it at the same time.

I honestly felt that it was basically a remake of the original with new technology, ala The Thing "prequel" that was basically a rehash of Carpenter's version. That's me though.

  8. Yeah, I didn't get that at all really. I suppose there were moments early on that seemed like it could have been, but I definitely thought there were enough twists and turns and stylistic decisions to set it apart. The storytelling and scares alone differentiate it from the original imo. I would argue that the "Evil Dead" remake/reboot is a more applicable comparison personally

I didn't like it the first time I watched it, but fell in love the second time.

  10. As soon as they introduced the drone, I was like, "Shit, I bet we'll get a bunch of beautiful drone shots without any explanation of the characters actually utilizing them." I was wrong.

That worked really, really well, and was a good way to reinforce how the witch changes the woods around her victims.

The Blair Witch wasn't them fighting over a map for 10000 years so, scientifically, it is not n exact remake and is better than the original

That's how I feel about film in general. Movies from the 90s based on contemporary technology like The Net, Johnny Mnemonic, and Hackers feel so dated. I already roll my eyes at movies today that use facetime, snapchat, and twitter as a plot device. Bringing it back to horror, I thought Unfriended was decent but wonder how it's going to look in 10 years from now.

I haven't watched The Net in years. I loved that movie back in the day. Looking back as an adult now...doesn't a guy kill himself in the beginning because he thinks he has HIV?

edit: yes, a guy does. I need to rewatch this

Yea, the Secretary of Defense. The hackers misdiagnosed him because he opposed a software company being used by the federal government.

    Welp.

At least the whole "order pizza online" thing turned out to be legit in the future!

It was practically the same movie, with minor detail changes. "Oh hey, we're going to go into the woods for something. Aw man, we got lost. Let's argue with each other! Oh shit, the woods got spoopy and now we're getting chased by something. Aw look, we lost people. Hey, look at this house that appeared out of nowhere. Oh whoops, it got us! Let's end it with the camera falling to the ground and then it cuts to credits! Beyond that, let's talk about the movie itself. The characters were completely unlikeable, not once did I want to see these people make it out or survive. It's like they took the crappy horror movie character trope book and ran wild with it. The pacing was atrocious, it literally took like 40 minutes for the movie to get going. Most of the footage prior to that was like filler. Oh look, they're having fun at a campfire! Who cares? The whole point of the movie is that you're getting stalked by an invisible witch in the woods so get on with it. Oh and what's the bloody point of having a reveal that the footage our protagonist found in the beginning is that of what happens in the end if you're not even going to address it or tie that loose end up? Are they in purgatory, doomed to repeat that forever? I dunno, it'd be nice to explain that. It was just a very disappointing movie overall, it had so much potential but it just didn't work.

It's very derivative but I thought it was a well done retread with a few new tricks

Just gonna ignore what @Kiana said though

  19. When you boil down to its simplest elements, yes, the plot details are similar, but 1) I'm not sure what you're expecting with a remake/reboot (again, Evil Dead did something similar) and 2) you're skipping over the introduction of major new plot elements, including the explanation behind the mischief at their campsite, the introduction of the time loop, further explanation of the witch, etc. Yes, the exposition was underwhelming, but as much respect as I have for the original, at least it wasn't an hour and fifteen minutes of arguing. The rest of your complaints are subjective (I thought the characters were fine), sorry you didn't like the movie but I'm glad I did ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn't find any of the Blair Witch characters unlikable except confederate flag annoying dude who took them into the woods. I liked his gf tho. Everyone else I was fine with. I was indifferent to them I guess, but knowing they're all screwed I think makes it also hard for me to really enjoy the characters cause im like well... nice knowing u bye.

The part that had my eyes roll into the back of my head was the dude getting sad that he wouldn't find his sister. Like bruh, it was 20 years ago and you think your sister is just roaming the woods out there like some wild woman waiting for your rescue? Like maybe it was just closure for him but come on.
