I'm really hoping a theater close to me picks up Green Room and The Invitation.

Also, maybe off topic, but does anyone know of any good horror video games on PS4?

 

I got tickets for Green Room tonight, but won't be able to go. Oh well

 

Until Dawn

 

Why haven't you been?

 

Probably nothing you haven't heard of already, but just in case, some Triple A titles are of course Until Dawn, Alien: Isolation, The Evil Within, and Dying Light. I personally enjoyed them all, with the exception of Until Dawn which though was good, I certainly didn't feel like I got my $60 worth. Some smaller, indie games would be Soma and of course Outlast, but more people might can chime in on the indie games as I don't play too many of them.

 

Kholat and Layers of Fear on PS4 are excellent. Gone Home and Firewatch aren't labeled horror but they certainly have elements and they both have terrifying settings.

 

Forgot about Kholat! Didn't play it myself but watched a from beginning to end stream on Twitch. I jumped on more than one occasion lol.

 

is the PS4 backwards compatible for older PS games? Siren/the updated version Siren: Blood Curse is a unique, reaaaally interesting take on survival horror provided you know what youre getting into. good write up on it here

 

It isn't sadly

 

It's so damn hard having to use a map and compass the old fashioned way without any of the gamey interference we've come to expect. So many times I'd be running from a monster and just end up lost in a blizzard with no idea where I was and that was painfully terrifying. I'm really into the story but I haven't beaten it yet because it's so damn hard, haha.

 

Game is great.

 

Ah I totally forgot about The Evil Within, will def check that out. I've heard that Until Dawn was lacking in some aspects, but it seems like it could be fun playing with a few of my friends. Hopefully I can get a cheap used copy around or on Amazon. I've watched playthroughs of Firewatch and Layers of Fear, both are great. Haven't seen or played any of Soma, Kholat, or Gone Home, so I'll check those out as well. Thanks for all the recs, guys.

 

Evil Within is perfection. The logical progression from Resi 4. Honestly liked it more than all of the old Resi games and I love that series. I have nothing but glowing things to say about Until Dawn but I adore those narrative focused, QTE games.

SOMA is excellent too. My favorite story in awhile.

Yo... So spoilers are great, but in the past on the forums they've been limited to more newer releases (generally "release day" has been the acceptable day to drop spoiler tags in specific film and tv show threads). In a lot of ways, the twists of horror are probably best left in spoiler tags, but ten years is a long time at the same time. I'll go ahead and spoil that post re: The Strangers, but this isn't that big of a deal folks.

I guess decide as a thread what the norm should be going forward and agree to it/update the OP if you need to.

 

I hate myself for not seeing Krampus in theaters. The wait has been killing me. I also hate movies coming out to buy digitally before their physical releases/rentals.

 

Isn't it coming to physical next week?

 

Yes, and the week wait is the most annoying part because I know it's technically out and I could buy it but I'd rather own the blu ray, ha.

I can't watch Christmas movies before Black Friday, so I'll buy it then. Great movie though

 

Green Room was a lot of fun. A few instances of gore that had me wincing and flourishes of humor that got good laughs. There was one line that was particularly pertinent today that got a full round of applause.
