  1. There's a lot of movies on this list I haven't seen.
Best 80s Horror Movies Ranked: From Evil Dead to C.H.U.D.

I kinda wanna watch Greasy Strangler, but I feel like I'll regret it.

Watched it last week. It was a little too slow for my taste, but it's definitely unique and has its merits.

Dead Snow 2 was pretty good, really delivered on its premise

For what it's worth, I highly recommend reading The Shining followed by Doctor Sleep.

edit: I think I've seen 10/50 movies on that list. I have work to do.

I think The Shining is still my favourite King book twenty or so books in. I haven't gotten to Doctor Sleep yet. The isolation of the hotel setting and the character of Jack were so great, I haven't felt particularly compelled to follow up on Danny yet

This is a mild vague spoiler for Doctor Sleep, but:

If you follow King's life you know that a huge part of it was getting and staying sober, and as someone who's spent time in the rooms, I really identify with Danny's sobriety journey as an adult.

Insidious was so bad. some of the imagery was neat, but the low budget showed when you saw how empty the spirit realm was. in fact, half of the scare chords seemed to come at completely nonsensical times, and the theme they blasted with the logo - christ, what an annoying, loud movie. both it and sinister are basically padded with "thin, incoherent marital conflict prevents us from resolving this demon" or whatever. and, both ended so poorly - especially Sinister - but Insidious was such a sequel ploy - god, what terrible movies. but i'm trying to catch up on one of the generations of horror i paid 0 attention to, the paranormal activity knock-off generation. this is what i must do

i did break it up with children of the corn, which was charming, if a little low on the atmosphere it would have needed to push it up to Carpenter quality. anyway, every Stephen King movie i watch, i remember, man, this dude really hates religion, haha.

lmao it would have been funny if when the guy tossed the knife he just murdered the shit out of that ginger

  11. I really like Sinister *shrug* nothing much Paranormal Activity about it imo

oh yeah they're totally different movies stylistically, i just mean the whole "couple's marriage and family disintegrate while they live in a house where something spooky is happening." it's a pretty simple plot so it's not quite fair for me to equate them, haha.

imo it was just devoid of scares and really cliche. pacing was all wonks too, the ending was ridiculously abrupt and the exclusion of any gore or even showing the wife and child's death didn't make much sense to me.

Hahaha that's crazy, I was trying to decide if I should watchedInsidious or Sinister today (I haven't seen either) but I decided to go with It Follows, VHS 2, and now Blair witch as a nice throwback, really wish I could find the new one to watch

the Scooby Doo specials were peak, especially when the monsters turned out to be real. best cartoon.

the conjuring felt really by the numbers for me. like, it was fine... but not something i'd ever feel like watching again. certainly just marketed to be a lot scarier than it actually was, haha. an odd film to have been so damn lucrative. i just wish Whannell and Wan would be more experimental. for all its faults, at least Saw was something different than all the haunting and possession films we've gotten from them.

actually - why do yall think Wan's films are so damn lucrative? Saw, Conjuring, Annabelle, Lights Out - he's attached to some really fucking successful films.

if any Scooby Doo stan doesn't know Zombie Island and agree it's the best Scooby Doo number, disavow them

To be fair, I've heard some of the newer ones are ranked pretty highly in the Scooby Doo echelon and I couldn't name any of them

Apparently one of the newer television incarnations digs into Lovecraftian horror which seems fucking awesome. As well as teen drama which maybe not.

watched killer klowns from outer space for the first time last night. SO silly and corny but also original and i guess that's what elevated it to cult status. i had a lot of fun watching it.
