Ended up doing VHS 1 & 2 and then Poltergeist instead of jeepers creepers. Also, seeing Dominique Dunne still makes me a little sad.

Overall, I like the first one better, but my favorite vignette is in the second one.

VH2 is worth it alone for Safe Haven, which is a masterpiece.

Has anybody seen Alchemist's Cookbook? Know it's not "horror" but sounds really cool

finally watched Halloween for the first time (?!?) and of course it was terrific. John Carpenter truly is top tier at moody, atmospheric, eerie small towns. it actually reminded me a lot of It Follows, perhaps for its sense of mortality and soundtrack. not sure.

ok real talk. @Kiana i just listened to Helena by MCR on a whim and now i really want to watch House of Wax again. is it irresponsible to take this holiday season as an excuse to rewatch peak teen horror in place of something i haven't seen yet? i'm asking you because im pretty sure you'll say to do it and i think that's the answer i want to hear

is it an overstatement to say it's the best of the teen horror flicks? cause i feel like it's not an overstatement

House of Wax was way more disturbing than it had the right to be.

I didn't put the movie down per say, I myself haven't seen it since the Bush years and didn't mind it then. I just didn't know that other people liked that movie that much, I always thought it was kinda forgotten in the period of horror so I was so surprised to see it mentioned again. Should've clarified that more in my initial statement, my bad yo.

yeah my love of it is multi-tiered.

first, it's a teen horror flick, a la cry_wolf, urban legend, i know what you did last summer, final destination, and so on. i've got a soft spot for those for a few reasons - some "so bad it's good," some "formulaic to the point of being comforting," kinda like that.

second, it's a fairly identifiable movie - yah, it's a slasher flick, but so much more memorable than, say, wrong turn, just on the premise of a wax museum/town location as well as a form of death.

then, like kiana and joe said, it's also really fun as well as actually kind of disturbing. it's not scary for sure, at least not in that nothing in film scares me much any more, and of course it's all so fake, but it still manages to be a lil creepy and visceral, and it ends up being a really enjoyable time.

and then it's just so reminiscent of that era! the aforementioned helena - i mean, MCR in the soundtrack puts you right at where it came out historically haha - but also all the teen stars - Jared Padalecki, Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray - and it came out right around that dumb horror movie glut that gave us so many great, terrible movies like those i mentioned above - it's so epitome of teen horror, it's just a blast.

idk. that's just me tho. but i love it dearly.

The thing I recall everyone bringing up about that movie back when is when Paris Hilton got killed, since it was in vogue at the time to shit on her with the passion of a thousands suns and act like she was the worst thing ever.

oh yeah and paris hilton. i mean come on, your horror movie has paris hilton in it, i'm just sold, either ironically or not.

yeah people really hate her haha. for some reason it makes her inclusion in the film real charming imo.

She actually wasn't that bad in it either, at least from what I remember. What a weird time that was, like you had the media and her fans just fawning over her like she was a baby animal who was just born at the zoo while you had other elements of the media acting like she was a harbinger of narcissistic doom and men, many of whom would never get the chance to even listen to her fart on the other end of a telephone, talking about how much of a "slut" she was or how she was "so ugly". Man, I'm so glad those times are over.

Paris is like most female "it" celebs in that she got called out for a lot of things that were unwarranted, but didn't get called out on things she should've, like racism.

Oh man, the memories I have with cry_wolf. It's gotta be nearly a decade since I've watched it, I need to check it out again

I think they should reboot Final Destination as a franchise. As long as you don't tie it as a people getting picked off after watching a live video or something on the internet, don't do that to me.
