Did you check it out yet?

I thought it was decent. Did a great job with the social commentary, but the horror part of the film was poorly executed. I felt like the haunting/djinn was kind of generic and the lead was completely illogical considering the film goes to lengths to show she is a very intelligent person.

Not yet, hope to at some point this weekend, but that's kind of disappointing after all the buzz I had heard about it.

Maybe I'll go with The Wailing instead and wait for this to be a 99cent or free watch.

Please don't let me dissuade you from seeing it! My buddy who saw it with me loved the movie, said I was being too critical. It still cracks my top ten this year. I saw this at a film festival and it was the one I was most excited to see. Ended up being my 3rd favorite of the 16 films I saw. It's well worth the watch.

Oh good to know then -- just bummed if the horror elements are disappointing, though.

I don't seek out a ton of horror movies, tend to just watch the most-hyped ones. That said, from what I've seen recently:

Awesome: The Thing, The Babadook, The Visit

Entertaining/Would watch again: The Witch, Unfriended, Crimson Peak

Disappointed with/Overrated: It Follows, Green Room

I watched The Witch recently, it was an interesting concept but not something I would watch again. I definitely don't hate it but there wasn't exactly anything I loved about it either, it's just a very "meh" film.

I really want to watch the Babadook and Crimson Peak. Also on my list are both Conjuring's, heard such great things, somehow haven't watched them. If you haven't watched Sinister, I really liked that one, creepy, good story.

The last 10 minutes definitely made the movie for me. I was pretty lukewarm until then but was pretty unsettled for the entire end of the movie.

Green room is still my fave movie I watched this year

Thought the setup was great. Then it sort of devolved into a standard survival movie for me. Also needed more Patrick Stewart.

I think the chemistry between anton and Imogen really made it for me. When they decided to screw it and act all weird and strategic it was so cute and legitimately made me laugh which most of those types of movies don't. It was very charming.

Have you seen Blue Ruin? Same director but more of a slow burn suspense thriller.

I haven't! I'll have to add it to my list

It might still be on Netflix streaming, that's where I saw it. One of the neo-nazis in Green Room is the lead in Blue Ruin

  15. I legitimately love Crimson Peak

Yup. I watched it. It was way better than I thought it'd be haha. Definitely worth the watch when there's nothing to watch.

I didn't love Crimson Peak but I do owe it a rewatch without the assumption of it being a horror movie

  18. I didn't love it, but it's a great gothic romance. It's such a gorgeous movie too.

  19. it was definitely marketed as something it wasn't. but as a gothic romance and gorgeous haunted house story, it's really wonderful.

I've never agreed with the "not a horror movie" way of thinking. Thought it was absolutely a horror movie just with gothic romance.

What did you think of the movie? I watched it last night and... did not love it.

Has this world stopped asking what it's thinking?

Me and my horror buddies didn't really like it either and couldn't wrap our minds around what we had just watched.

    BULLSHIT ARTIST!!

I usually like that sort of stilted humor and gross stuff, but I felt like the movie didn't really coalesce into a good whole.
