I really enjoyed Smile the second time around. It really wants to be so much deeper than it really is but it’s still largely effective when it doesn’t get too on the nose with mental health and trauma (the amount of times a character says something like “are you insane?!” or “he’s looney tunes” or “do you think I’m crazy?!” is so over the top and silly). I really liked the main performances and I truly love the creature design in the final act. Definitely a little too long and a bit self-smart but I’m excited to see the sequel and whatever Parker Finn does in the future

 

Scanners is (feels weird to say) kinda boring? When it rocks, it absolutely rocks, but the middle drags

There's a dryness to it that is, to me, very cozy in the way a lot of films from the 70s are, but I definitely understand the complaint even if I think the movie rules

 

The ending Scanner fight us so fucking cool

 

The main actor in Scanners was so bad it was hard to take anything he said seriously

 

Also I’m pretty sure the guy didn’t blink once

 

Is that new Halley Berry movie going to be any good? I have AMC so cost isn't really an issue but time is but it looks like it could be generic. I'll wait for word or mouth on it before committing.

 

The Substance is fucking wild yo, holy shit that was awesome. Every film in the "bonkers" category this year just tops the one before it. First Immaculate, then Cuckoo, then this?! 2024 lit

 

If you're like "why do you like The Substance but can't handle IAVN" idk what to tell you hahaha

 

Early reviews I saw said it wasn’t terrible but barely had any story lol

 

Does it have over the top to borderline silly gore?

 

Idk I personally think body horror and gore are very different things.

Yeah something like that. I'm okay with body horror because it's the body doing horrible things. I'm not so good with horrible things being done to the body.

 

The Substance was over the top in every single way and I loved every second. Seeing it in a packed theater really felt like the way to go, I’d recommend going as soon as you can to maximize on the groans

 

Certainly not traditional horror but definitely adjacent considering its tone and director, I watched Sorcerer last night and holy hell. One of the tensest films I have ever seen. Nightmarish at times

 

This better only be one 20 minute long episode and that's it.

 

I'm sure it's good but it's been out for less than a day!!

 

It ain't that serious but I will say Longlegs being overhyped (imo) has made me very wary of buying into hype. I am super excited about The Substance, but I try to temper most of my expectations these days because I'd rather be pleasantly surprised that bummed to not be on board with something everyone else is loving

That being said, I'm pretty sure I will have a great time with The Susbtance

 

I truly feel like The Substance is gonna be right up your alley
