  2. Did Jason X last night. I feel like I got what they were going for more on this watch around, but a lot of the humor and digital effects have aged like milk. It's fun-ish with some strong kills, but it's also one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen in a franchise full of dumb movies, and I wish I meant that as a compliment.

Also did Day of the Dead and Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Romero really was the King; he made zombie films that felt more human than a lot of dramas, and Day of the Dead is no exception. It's a total vibe movie about what happens when communication breaks down and we turn on each other in times of strife. Dream Warriors comes very close to meeting the original NOES in quality, it just loses a little steam in the final 20 minutes or so. But the visual effects and kills hit a creative high that I don't think the franchise ever hits again. It's a great comfort watch and sequel with a knockout cast. Lagenkamp is the best.

Something in the Dirt and From Beyond tonight for two of my Gore-Us picks. Maybe In a Violent Nature if I have time.

I watched Southbound for the road trip horror movie prompt. Pretty damn cool anthology. Some segments worked better than others

That one is tight. Much of my life was spent driving around the desert so it hit pretty good for me.

Watching In A Violent Nature, this is such a fascinating movie. It’s a little pretentious imo but I definitely appreciate what it’s setting out to do as a movie. Love this wave of experimental horror in the past few years.

It's a setting I'd like to see more in horror for sure. I've seen a couple and I'm sure there's some I'm missing out on too

Yeah, I really liked this movie, went ahead and preordered a copy because this was very cool and definitely earned a spot in my horror collection.

Never considered that kind of category before, but Joy Ride spooked me out a long when I younger. Haven’t seen it in a looong time though.

  15. From Beyond is such an insane movie, especially viewed through a post-The Thing, pre-Hellraiser lens. It's so batshit crazy that I simultaneously can't believe anyone gave them 4.5 million to make it, and also can't believe they were able to create all of those effects with that little money.

Started Gore-Us off yesterday with my '80s cult classic. Did Disney's Something Wicked This Way Comes. I think that counts. It's a pretty good adaptation and captures a lot of the rhyme and whimsy of Bradbury's novel while effectively handling its themes of growing up, growing old, and the nostalgia of idyllic childhood. It's got great fall atmosphere and some legit creeps when the carnival arrives. Kinda slow and very cozy, gauzy and dreamlike. I definitely recommend if you're looking for something a little lighter and made for kids in the '80s. Also highly recommend the book, the prose is really delightful and poetic and captures October perfectly.

It answers a good question: Can you find a horror movie hornier than Hellraiser? The answer is yes and it’s that movie.

Like Ken Forte fighting a phallic shaped monster in a Speedo in a flooded basement level horny. Plus the sex dungeon and all that.

If we're talking oddly sexual toned horror I feel like return of the living dead part 3 should make the list. Horror but also kind of a love story lol? Horror rom com?

Did Cujo for Gore-Us (film from the month/year you were born - yes, I'm ancient)

Was pretty gnarly with lots of gore. I liked the claustrophobic atmosphere with them being trapped in the car for the third act but some of the subplots were highly unnecessary and left unresolved. Idk, it was fine but felt a little unfinished.

Started Resolution (Moorhead and Benson pick) but fell asleep halfway through. About to finish it now. Really digging it but there is some "dated" language that kinda sucks to hear.
