Also it’s a pretty fun movie. I think you’ll have a good time when you watch it

Reminisced with my friends tonight about all the outrageous little horror gems we rented back in the day. They were chosen by how hard we laughed at the packaging.

    Camp Blood 2
    Hellinger
Hellgate: The House That Screamed 2
    Monsturd
    El Chupacabra
    Terror Toons
    Zombiez
    Blood Red Planet

Really miss how much fun we used to have watching these abominations.

I definitely remember Terror Toons. I know I rented it but remember nothing about it.

Ahhhh, the power of the video box art.

My top 5 according to Letterbox ratings:
    1. Silence of the Lambs
    2. The Shining
    3. Nope
    4. The Thing
    5. Hereditary

That's a pretty good mix of classic and modern IMO

    Next 5 are more weird:
    6. Jennifer's Body
    7. Titane
    8. House
    9. Green Room
    10. Black Swan

If we are including something that stirs up genre discussions like Jaws, then Jaws is absolutely the first in my top 5 but if not:

    TTCM
    Halloween
    The Exorcist
    Alien
    Dawn of the Dead

Just spit em out, I could change it any number of ways if I think about it for more like a few seconds

  9. Evil Dead (2013)
    Scream
    Paranormal Activity
    Alien
    Halloween

    The Lost Boys

    Hereditary
    Get Out
    Scream

(Bonus - I'll add two more recent horror movies: Talk to Me and Barbarian)

The two horror movies that scared the shit out of me as a kid was The Lost Boys and Pet Cemetery.

    Halloween
    TCM
    Scream
    The Exorcist
    The Thing

  17. If you're not familiar with horror but can handle scary:
Doctor Sleep director's cut (and The Shining for context)
    Midsommar also director's cut
Get Out (although I do like Nope more)
    Nia DaCosta's Candyman
    Talk to Me

If you are already a horror fan:
    Malignant
    Barbarian
    Bones and All
    The Night House
    Titane

Definitely skewing more recent. I'd say Jaws but that's just a classic in general

    itchy, tasty Prestigious

    Scream
    Evil Dead (2013)
    The Fog
    Creepshow
    Halloween (1978)

  19. Halloween // The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    The Blair Witch Project
    Dawn of the Dead
    The Thing // Alien
    Get Out //Jacob's Ladder

This is my cop-out answer. Blair Witch and Dawn '79 are a lock, but for the others, I would go with the first pick for a newcomer and the second pick for someone a little more advanced. I think this is the best primer I could give someone that spans four decades and five subgenres without sacrificing quality whatsoever. These are all great films imo.
