Robert Eggers can get there if Nosferatu is good.

    Nvm, you said last three.

The Lighthouse was a miss for me. I'm still seeing Nosferatu opening night though.

I actually liked The Lighthouse more than I thought I would. Not better than The Witch but still very good. Im quite excited for Nosferatu.

  5. The Lighthouse is a definite hit for me, but The Northman (not straight horror, I know) was just alright. Love Villeneuve too, one of the best doing it, but he feels like more of a thriller director to me.

I'd take Eggers over Peele for sure. Villeneuve is easily one of the best currently working too. My comment about Aster was regardless of genre. Honestly I can only think of a few times any director has had such a perfect run for my tastes.

The Witch is awesome, The Lighthouse is really good, The Northman was alright but had some great scenes. I’d say Eggers is right there but doesn’t have two top tier awesome films like Aster yet. I enjoy Peele but I don’t think he has anything I like as much as The Witch, Hereditary, or Midsommar.

I know he only had one real horror film, but Yorgos is the most consistent and interesting director working rn imo

Id like to see more from Valdimar Jóhannsson. I enjoyed Lamb and I tend to like the more folklore horror style.

  10. Ranking the big nine from the big three?

    NOPE
    Beau is Afraid
    Get Out
    Midsommar
    The Witch
    Hereditary
    The Lighthouse
    Us
    The Northman

literally all 8s and above aside from The Northman, though.

  11. Boy, I did NOT enjoy Lamb, but I'm glad somebody did. Genuinely. I enjoyed Enys Men a bit more, that was another folk horror slowburn where not much happened.

I will have to add that film on my list.

Pretty bummed that Pascal dropped out of Weapons because it has a lot of hype pre-production

Barbarian was so much fun. I'm hoping Weapons is even better.

  14. Is Weapons confirmed to be a horror film? I haven't read anything about it

I love them. They're like high 8's. They're just not all timers for me like the top 7.

  20. NOPE is a movie I've seen three times now and it has consistently gotten better each time. It's a 10 for me now. Just feels like there's always something new to speculate on about the world it takes place in, and it captures horror is such a unique setting in the same way Jaws does. I love that the primary relationship is between siblings as opposed to a romantic one.

    Nope (my favorite by far)
    Hereditary
    Get Out
    The Vvitch
    Midsommar
Us (my least favorite by far)

haven’t seen the other three lol

  22. Besides a creepy crawling part, Us was pretty forgettable.

  23. Us is underrated imo. I think he learned a lesson about what questions need to be answered and what questions can be left to the imagination and applied that knowledge when making Nope. But Us is still a really unique and creepy thrill ride.

Nope and Hereditary are probably my top two of the 9 films. Get Out would be but someone accidently told me the twist.

  25. Gonna add Garland to the mix

Top three: Midsommar (director's cut), Nope, Annihilation

Bottom three: Hereditary, Beau is Afraid, Men

    Middle: everything else

Not saying Aster's other two films are "bad" per se, I just don't like them as much and/or don't have any inclination to revisit them. I think Men is the only dud of the bunch, which is unfortunate because the tunnel scene is genuinely one of the most unnerving things I've seen
