highly recommend that show. you're not wrong, it was a procedural on a network station. however, it was on at a 10pm timeslot so it got away with a lot of body horror. funnily enough, it also has some of the best looking food on tv, even better than any actual commercial. also the show may or may not be subtextually queer. idk if it belongs on Shudder but it's certainly got horror vibes.

Oh, and Mads, Hugh, and Laurence absolutely slay

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

yeah that show is verrrry horror as it goes on. it only really feels like a procedural for half of season 1 if memory serves. highly recommend it, it's great stuff

  3. It's SotL-adjacent, why wouldn't it be on Shudder?? Good grab for them

I get it. Like I said, I’m a huge Thomas Harris fan and have loved all of those movies (well, except Young Hannibal- I remember that being rough). I was speaking more to the style of the show rather than the content being the biggest surprise seeing it on Shudder. Just being so polished and network-y. Regardless, I am watching and enjoying it!

  5. is Shudder not polished? I saw Watcher and Resurrection on there

  6. Rewatching Masking Threshold last night, still not for me. Did The Exorcist today and yup, still a banger. Onto Believer. Will report back

And those aren’t series. But i’m clearly not explaining myself well. Just forget I said anything, I like the show and i’m happy it’s on shudder sheesh haha

Very interested to hear your take on Believer. Still haven’t seen it myself but I want to take the plunge soon

  9. Believer was...not good. Frustratingly so. The emotional core of the feel is super solid imo, and the pieces are there, but everything in-between is so toothless and joyless and painfully average. Hardly any effective scares, bad CG, bad ADR. You can just feel David Gordon Green tediously trying to reference the original at every turn. Ironically, if you cut Burstyn and all the stuff indebted to the original, just called the film Believer, I think audiences would have been way more receptive. But of course less folks would have cared about/seen it.

If it wasn't a Halloween movie it'd be a modern horror classic

Haha yeah I'm not sure about that myself even. It does have a very unique story though, most horror movies have not been very creative in that department lately. If they had just fully committed to Corey and not had the final Michael/Laurie confrontation it'd be a much better movie imo

My wife’s favorite film in the Halloween series is Ends. I may/may not have Dutch oven’d her after that revelation.
