Tony Todd's the fucking man no doubt, but I think an evil dead 2013 type of remake for the candyman could be really good if in the right hands

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Candyman is a movie I'm genuinely thrilled they're remaking, because it's chock-full of iconic imagery and amazing ideas that could be reused, but it also has plenty of stuff that hasn't aged well or comes off a bit corny. specifically never been a fan of how the second half shifts to "oh she's the reincarnation of his dead wife or something" instead of the far more terrifying and unnerving "she's a totally normal person whose curiosity about this urban legend doomed her"

basically in the right director's hands, taking all the good stuff and leaving out the bad, and with the right cast (Tony Todd coming back and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the lead is a very fucking solid start) you could have a really incredible remake

Fully agreed with this. Halloween wrecked me at an early age and I will probably always consider it my favorite horror movie as a result. Slashers were my gateway into the genre.

    A) I sincerely had no idea a remake was in the works, I'm in!

    B) I agree 100% with that - tons of potential to take original series in a different direction

I usually dislike more times than not the "hey this entire time? The pro/antagonist was actually the spirit of _____ reincarnated!!1" trope twist.

There's a few films or series it works fine with when it's not the crux of the whole plot imo but idk just feels like a waste of time mostly

  7. Jess went to bed early last night, so I did a Joe Dante double feature (Small Soldiers and The Howling). Off tomorrow, so I'm gonna aim for The Wolfman, Terror Train, and Jaws (with the old JBB segments) tonight.

  10. That is HIGH praise lol but I'm here for it, was a lot of fun to revisit considering I hadn't seen it in a decade. Had no idea David Cross was in it, or Jay Mohr, or that it was Phil Hartman's final on-screen role. Good stuff. Gotta say, though, Gremlins walked so Small Soldiers could run.

A friend of mine cut the trailers for Honeydew....I still haven't gotten a chance to check it out, but it looks wild.

  14. Hadn't heard of Honeydew until now, trailer looks pretty wild. Is it streaming anywhere?

Terror Train didn't do a whole lot for me. It picks up in the last 15 minutes when you get JLC vs the killer, but otherwise kinda bland.

  19. Oh man, completely disagree lol. I mean I don't think it's mind-blowing or anything but the environment, the costumes, the twist, it all really worked for me. Scratched a very specific itch of seeing an 80s slasher set on a train lol. Really solid writing and performances imo, but then again, I think With Gourley and Rust is making me enjoy it more in retrospect.

It was definitely better made and acted than I expected and I admittedly fucked up the pacing by watching while working and had to keep pausing.

Watched Terror Train yesterday. The second I saw the killer, I knew exactly who it was. It was just kind of okay overall. JLC is an MVP in everything.

  22. The New Mutants wasn't as scary as I'd hoped--

Did I just say I wanted something to be scarier??? This thread is being a bad influence.

Eli Roth announced as first guest on the new season of The Last Drive-In. Wonder if that means they'll show something of his, something he's a fan of, or if he is just gonna be promoting his show.

  24. The description on IG said they'd be discussing/debating two horror classics. Not a Roth fan, but definitely curious!

Ah, okay good. I don't hate him or his work like some do, but I was not really excited for anything outside of like DotD or Cabin Fever. I can respect his adoration for the genre and hopefully him and Joe Bob have some good discussion.
